"How's Mari? Has she been pick-up from school?" Aydan asked, taking off her coat, ready to fly his way to our daughter's school once I told him the answer he didn't want to hear.
"Calm down, Love. She's with Caius, okay?" I answered, calming him down.
Sighing, he sat on the couch. We're in his office.
I was already back to work which made Aydan extra worried. He worries that his father might try to come to Mari again now that we both can't attend to her on time. So, we asked his friend, Caius, to bring Mari to their house when he picked up Kai. We will just pick her up from there.
Thankfully, it was never a problem for Caius. He understands the situation and even suggested hiring a bodyguard and filing a restraining order against Aydan's biological father.
"That's my plan. But in the meantime, please take care of my daughter for a few hours. We'll get her from there after work."
That's what Aydan answered to Caius when he mentioned that.
"Are you serious about calling cops to yo—umm to Mr. Alfred?" I asked him and without re-thinking what he said, he nodded.
"That's the only thing to make you and our daughter safe."
"You're speaking as if he's done some hideous crime."
Aydan arched his brow. "Would you rather move out of the country? Because if you say yes, I will immediately process our papers," he said instead.
My eyes widened. "What? No! Why is that even an option?"
"Because I want a peaceful life for our family. And if that's the only thing to get it, then, we will do it," he said. "And please, stop taking his side."
I chuckled. "I'm not taking his side, Love. What I was trying to say is, why don't we discuss this matter with him? Tell him we will not agree with whatever idea he has on his mind and if he could leave us alone."
"He won't listen. He never listened. He only does whatever benefits him and leaving us living our lives peacefully isn't in his options. I've learned to read his mind in a short time of knowing him," he answered. "You promised you'll not talk to him again, right?"
I nodded. "I know. I promised. I just don't want to complicate this matter. So, if we can talk this matter out, then, let's do it."
He shook his head. "There're only two options we have here, Love. It's either we do it legally—by law—or we move out of his reach," he said.
That what's on my mind the whole day at work. I don't want to expose my daughter with that kind of situation. Bago pa nga lang sa kanya ang pagkakaroon ng ama, pagkatapos ay gulo naman dahil sa lolo niya ang mararanasan niya agad.
But leaving will never be an option for me, too. Ayaw ko umalis. Hindi ko kayang iwanan ang mga magulang ko. And Mari's friends. I don't want to take them away from her. My daughter improves better without them, my heart can't take seeing my daughter cry because she loses them.
But seeing Aydan's biological father in front of me, demanding me to have my daughter check for bone marrow compatibility for her aunt made me rethink all the thoughts about Aydan's options.
"Her father matches my daughter, so she probably matches her aunt, too," he said. His eyes were twinkling with excitement.
This man surely doesn't know how genetics works.
"Do you even know how old my daughter is and what age is required to donate a bone marrow?" I asked. "She's just six."
"Does that even matter? I mean, we're family. The hospital won't argue anymore when we give the consent to operate them. And if they won't allow us here, we can fly to the U.S to do the operation. They probably won't care," he answered, smiling widely, confident with what he said.
