The scene happened reached everyone it could reached. Kahit mga E.R nurses ay nalaman ang tungkol dun kahit hindi pa natatapos ang araw ay kumalat na iyon. Kaya hindi na ako nagtaka na malaman na rin iyon ni Aydan.
"I'm sorry," I said. I was on the driver seat while Aydan's in the passengers'. I picked him up from the hospital after his five-hour surgery.
"What are you sorry for?" He asked, brows creased.
I bit my lips and said, "I know it already reached you. I know I should have not done that... to cause a scene. For showing some attitude towards Emily and the others."
Aydan arched his brow. "And why are you sorry for that?"
"Because I embarrassed you. I have your name branded on me. Your name that you worked hard to be known, and what did I just do? Fought with my co-worker," I said.
Honestly, I wasn't sorry that I fought back. I was sorry that I had to drag Aydan to it. Hindi ko naman ginusto at huli ko na na-realize ang bagay na iyon.
"I don't feel embarrassed, though." Ani niya.
I turned to look at him when we stopped at the red light.
"Inaway ko sila," pag-amin ko.
But Aydan just grinned on what I said. "Inaway," he repeated. "I've been hearing things about the ICU nurses but I never thought they would do it to you too. I would have snapped so hard that they would be jobless by tomorrow if I witnessed that in front of my eyes." He said like it was nothing.
"I don't want you to do that," I said.
Aydan shrugged. "I can bear you mad at me for a moment rather than let them do that to you everyday. You're my wife but before that, you're a great nurse. You do your job passionately and no one has the right to question you and your capabilities. Because, honestly, if it was me who brought you there, I would have made you the boss."
He said and I chuckled. "I'm glad you're not my recruiter."
This guy. I can't really. Though, I was glad that he didn't take what I did as a big deal. That finally, I have someone on my side. I have him.
Aydan reached for my hand and brought it to his lips. "You should have told me about it the first time it happened, though." He kissed the back of my hand after saying that.
I shrugged and took back my hand to drive. "I don't want you involved. Besides, I don't think I want to see you exercise everything you are capable of doing just because of that... Because of me."
Aydan grinds again. "You know I'd die doing everything I could if it's for you. I am always at your side."
I tsk-ed and rolled my eyes. "We're not high schools anymore, Claveria. Stop being so corny."
He laughed at my remarks. "Baby, I'm not corny. I'm just reminding you that you are the love of my life and I am more than willing to do and provide everything for you," he said.
Napailing na ako kahit natatawa. "Ewan ko sayo. Matulog ka muna. I'll just wake you up when we arrive home," I told him but he just shook his head.
"I'm not sleepy yet and besides, I'm enjoying the view in front of me," he answered and I turned to see what view he was talking about. I caught him looking at me, with that grin on his lips. "It's been awhile since I saw you drive. You picked me up from home after a long day, actually," he added.
My lips curved upwards remembering a moment where this situation also happened before. Bagong surgeon palang siya at pinahawak na agad ng pasyenteng ooperahan. The operation lasted for thirteen hours and he was so tired that he called me to pick him up. And when I came to get him, he was like a plant out of water for weeks. He couldn't even lift his hand to open our car's door. And when he got in, he fell asleep the moment his back lay on the seat.
