My suspension was, somehow, a blessing to me—I'd like to think of it that way—because it gives me more time to be a mother and wife. Now, I can do things that I could only do in a limited time before. Like today. I was able to prepare for our breakfast, cook Aydan's food for lunch and snacks for his breaks—food that I usually cook during weekends since it takes a lot of time to prepare. And the most important part of it is, I was able to drop Mari off at her school and wait for her until her classes ended.
"Wait until mommy comes to pick you up, okay?" I told her although I will stay in her school. Agad namang tumango ang anak ko pero nasa iba ang tingin nito, pagalagala sa paligid. I smirked. "What are you looking at baby?"
"Kai," She answered honestly.
"He might be already inside the classroom," I said but my daughter shook her head immediately.
"He waits here always. He waits for me before going inside," she answered and I was honestly surprised. Surprised by how she can clearly speak a whole sentence now. I'd like to think that it is because she's schooling now but I know a big part of it is because of Kairus. Kai's a big help for Mari's learnings and improvements.
"Really? He waits for you always?" I asked more and she nodded. "How about Orrin and Kenzie? Do they wait for you here too?"
Mari shook her head. "They are inside already."
"They are?"
"Yes, mommy. They go to school together," Mari answered. "Orrin's daddy picks Kenzie to their house so they will come to school together. They go home together too," she said.
"Wow. That's nice," I commented. "How about you, baby? Do you want to go to school with Kai too?"
She shook her head again. "No, mommy."
"Why? Wouldn't it be nice to go to school with Kai?"
"I want only you and daddy to bring me here," she answered and I can't help but smile.
"That's so sweet of you, baby." I said, touched by my daughter's thoughtfulness. "Let's wait for Kai here," I told her, brushing her hair using my fingers. She nodded and happily smiled at me.
A few minutes after Kai arrived. He was happily running to the spot, tailed by his father.
"You're early," Kairus said, standing in front of Mari, towering over my daughter.
Mari shrugged then looked at me. Kai looked at me and I shrugged as well. How can I tell this kid that I was able to send Mari to here today because I have a lot of time now? Getting no answer from me, the two continued talking. I even saw Kai taking out something from her pocket and handing it out to Mari.
A small flower.
"You don't have work today?" Caius asked me, making me turn to him.
"I'm suspended," I answered, shrugging.
"I see. I heard what happened but I didn't know they did this to you. I guess Aydan's authority still has limitation, huh?"
"I told him to get his nose out of my business. He can't just meddle with my work just because I'm his wife."
"I don't think that's easy, though. I will surely act the same way when it's my wife who got compromised," he said.
I smiled. "You guys need to calm down. We surely can handle ourselves. Handling our husband's attitude is proof that we can manage everything," I said and that made him chuckle.
"Well, I guess," he said, shaking his head, still smiling. "You have to get inside now, kids. It's almost time," he turned to Kai and Mari.
The two nodded and Mari faced me, raising both of her hands to me. I lean on to reach her.
