It was... overwhelming.
Everything overwhelms me that I felt head lighted.
"Mommy," Mari called me, raising her arms to me. But before I could carry her, Aydan took her.
"Mom's inside. She was very excited to meet our daughter," he said, holding my hand with a free one.
"Is she?"
"Yeah. She said she wanted to be here when you arrive. I think she even prepares a grand dinner," he answered. "Mamita's here too," he added, pertaining to Head Nurse.
My heart hammered inside my rib cage. Hindi ko alam kung para saan ako kinakabahan pero hindi ko mapigilan. Everything surprises me even though this was planned. Aydan and I planned this, but everything aside from the plan of moving in with, I have no idea about all those.
"Amara anak," Aydan's mother said enthusiastically. Nakalahad ang mga kamay nito sa akin, nag aanyaya ng yakap
"Good evening, Mama." I greeted her, giving the hug she wanted. "Good evening, Head Nurse," I greeted Aydan Mamita as well. She was just standing at the side, smiling as she watched her.
Head Nurse nodded at me. "Welcome home, Amara..." she said to me before turning to Mari. "And to you too, young lady. Welcome home, Mari."
Aydan's mom immediately turned to my daughter upon hearing that from Head Nurse. "Oh my, is that she? Sya na ba ang apo ko?" she asked me.
I nodded and smiled. "Yes, Mama," I said. "This is your granddaughter, Amaris Romana."
"Meet our daughter, Mama. Mamita," Aydan said.
"Oh, my apo," Mama said, stretching her arms to get Mari from Aydan's arm.
But Mari must be startled that she hid her face in Aydan's neck. Aydan, on the other hand, chuckled.
"That's mama and mamita," he comforted our daughter but Mari didn't budge. Instead, she extended her arms to me, asking me to get her from her father's arm.
"Mummy," she even called, brows creased.
I took her and she immediately hid on my neck. "Baby, that's your mama and mamita. They are daddy's mommies," I told her.
But still, Mari didn't listen. She kept her face hidden on my neck.
"It's fine, anak. She must be shocked to meet new people," Mama said.
Sumasang-ayon naman si Head Nurse sa sinabi ng mama ni Aydan at sa halip, nag-aya na lamang ito na kumain na.
We all agreed. At habang nasa hapag, hindi ko mapigilan ang ilibot ang paningin sa paligid. I can't help but feel, somehow, happy and sad. I'm in between.
Happy because Aydan was able to keep the house the way I left it. There were some changes, but those were just minor, those I think really needed change like some of our appliances. I can still see the traces I left, the last memories I made in this house.
Sad, because as I recall those memories, I also recall the feelings. The pain and betrayal, the sadness I felt in my remaining days of staying here.
"Something wrong?" Aydan whispered beside me.
Immediately, I shook my head. "Nothing," I smiled. "It's just... I mean, the house still looks the same... the way I left it."
Aydan held my hand then squeezed it. "I told you. I was waiting for you to come home. I can't change anything here. I know how much time and effort you put into decorating our home," he answered. "Though, I already replaced our coffeemaker," he added.
