Days Until the Wedding: 25
"Wait, so what happened?" I laugh.
"He-" Ashton can't stop giggling, "He straight-up punched the guy! Like, with no warning or anything!"
"No warning?"
"Seriously, none! So, we were on the other side of Emily's backyard talking to this girl from school, right? The whole time, Luke kept looking over to where Emily and that Andy guy were talking, and then he just storms away from me and-"
"This girl?" I ask, turning back to the computer so I can continue adding a new reservation into the cafe's schedule.
"Oh, yeah, her name's Amy. She's in Emily and Luke's Pro. Comm. class apparently. She's really nice," Ashton shrugs, "Anyway, so Luke literally just walks off and as I look to see where he's going, he yells something about drugging lemonade and straight up knocks the guy out!"
"He knocked him out?" I gasp.
"Well, not at first, the guy got up and punched Luke pretty badly, then Luke punched him again and that's when he knocked him out."
"What the hell? I leave you guys alone for one night, and this happens?"
"Speaking of, how was your date?" He looks up from his homework.
"It was good, actually, we went to see a movie and then we just drove around for a while. We had a great time," I smile.
"I'm glad, you deserve it," Ashton nods, then looks down at his phone, "Hey, Luke wants to know if we can join him and Emily at the ice cream shop by terminal three after work, you want to go?"
"I can't," I frown, "I have an appointment."
"You've kinda had a lot of appointments lately..." Ashton trails off.
"Yeah, it's getting kind of busy. Maybe we could reschedule? Have ice cream another day?"
"I'm the only one who doesn't know what these appointments are for... wait, if you aren't comfortable with telling me, please don't feel like you have to. Honestly, I'm okay, it's just not the best feeling to be the odd one out, but if you don't want to tell me, that's more than okay. It just kinda-" Ashton stops himself, "Fuck, I'm just making this worse, aren't I?"
"A little," I admit, "But it's okay. The appointments aren't anything to worry about, nothing bad is happening."
"That helps a little," Ashton nods, "Im sorry if I pressured you at all."
"You're okay, Ash, don't worry," I smile.
"I'm here for you if you need me, okay? Like anything at all, I'm totally here to help," Ashton assures me.
"That means a lot, thank you."
He smiles and we each go back to our work. I work on the computer while he does his homework and we both occasionally answer a few calls.
"Ash," I look up from the computer, and talk slowly, "You're not going to leave, right?"
"No, of course not. I have homework to do," Ashton looks confused.
"No, like you're not going to leave me. Like, leave our friendship or anything like that?"
"No, I'm not," He says dead-serious, "You're my best friend, honestly. I don't know what I'd do without you and you mean so much to me, I don't think I could ever leave, even if I wanted to. I'm not going anywhere."
I'm speechless for a moment, then I smile, "I think I want to tell you about my appointments."
"Meg, if it's because I brought them up, I'm sorry. Honestly, if you feel pressured to tell me about it, don't tell me about the appointments. Please, don't."
"Well, I feel ready, and I truly want to tell you, so will you let me?"
"Only if you want to," Ashton says hesitantly.
"I want to," I nod.
"Then, come on, tell me!" Ashton giggles.
I laugh, "My sister's getting married."
"Nessa?" Ashton raises an eyebrow, "She's a little young, but hey-"
"No, not her! My older sister, Noelle," I explain, "You haven't met her, which is probably a good thing, she's been awful lately."
"Because of her wedding?"
"Yeah, she's so stressed, and I'm a bridesmaid and I'm having to pay for my own expenses, which explains why I got a job," I gesture to the café behind me, "And let me tell you, planning a wedding is absolute hell. Hell covered in lace and flowers, but hell none the least."
"Is it that bad? Like, I've seen shows like Bridezillas, but I haven't experienced it first hand."
"It's awful. Sure, there are some good parts, but in general it's not fun."
"So your appointments have been like dress appointments and stuff?"
"Pretty much, yeah," I shrug, "It's not some big secret, but it is a big deal to me and it's an important thing in my life right now. I didn't want to tell you because I knew that if you left that I would regret sharing a current big part of my life with someone who didn't even want to stay with me."
"I understand completely," Ashton nods, "And I'm happy that you told me, because that shows that you believe me when I say that I'm not going to leave you. Ever."
"Ash? I'm leaving in about ten minutes or so to go to my appointment, and well, I was wondering if you would like to come with me?" I ask.
"Sure, of course," Ashton smiles brightly.
"Cool," I can't help but smile, too. A huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and honestly, I feel so happy. My phone rings and I quickly see on the screen that Chris is calling and I excitedly answer it.
"Hey, babe," I smile.

I am so sorry, that was really short. I haven't been able to write much, seeing as I'm fairly busy with health stuff and school. (I literally stayed up until 5:30am last night (a Friday night, too) working on a biology project. Like, seriously, who does that?? I'm still not even finished, this project is going to kill me, I just know it.)
Anyways, I felt like I owed you guys something for waiting so patiently, though, so here y'all go.
I may go back and edit it, so tell me what you think of this chapter!!
I hope you're all doing wonderfully, let me know something that's currently making you happy in the comments, okay?
Much love,
enobles
