Days Until the Wedding: 19

"Wanna get some coffee?" Ashton gives me a tired smile as he hangs his apron up behind the display counter.

"It's a little late," I chuckle and gesture to the old clock on the wall of the bakery that reads 10:30 p.m.

"Please," Ashton whines, pouting his lips and batting his eyelashes.

"Oh, fine," I sigh with a small smile. Ashton grins and immediately takes my hand in his as we walk out of the bakery. Ash turns to lock the door behind us and then we begin to walk towards the coffee shop a few terminals down.

"So, how was your day?" He asks.

"It was good," I nod, "Very tiring, but still good. And yours?"

"I've had better, but I'm still happy because we got to talk during work."

I blush and roll my eyes, making him chuckle and say, "Hey, it's the truth."

"How's everything coming along? You know, life and such. We've both been pretty busy these last few weeks," I say.

"Yeah, we haven't gotten to talk as much as I'd like. Life's been pretty good, though, I've gotten some extra credit assignments done for school and I'm saving up the money I earn from the bakery."

"What are you saving up for?"

"I actually don't know. I kinda just got a job to keep me busy, being new in town and all, so when it comes to the money I make, I don't know what to spend it on."

"I had to get my job to pay for my bridesmaid dress," I cringe, "For all of this work going into paying for it, that dress better be really fucking cute."

"Hey, you're job isn't all that bad. There are some perks," Ash laughs, pointing to himself.

"You're right, the employees in the café are pretty nice," I chuckle.

Ash clears his throat loudly and I smirk, "Okay, and that curly-haired kid from the bakery isn't too bad either."

"'Isn't too bad either'," Ashton mocks. He clutches his hand over his heart, "I'm offended, Meghan. Truly and deeply hurt, that's for sure. I just-"

"Okay, okay, you're greater than great," I reach up and mess up his hair, "Is that better?"

"Much," Ash laughs with a goofy grin.

We walk up to the coffee shop's front counter and order our drinks. A couple minutes later, we grab our order and find a table in the back of the shop.

"We should hang out more," Ashton ponders before taking a sip of his coffee.

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, "We're hanging out now."

"Well, yeah," Ashton chuckles, "But like, lately, we haven't hung out as much. I miss my best friend. We used to, like, go to the movies, study together, and-"

"You know how busy I am," I sigh.

"That's the thing, I don't. How am I supposed to know what keeps you busy if we haven't talked all week?"

"I'm busy, Ash," I grow slightly annoyed at his pestering, "I'm busy with school, I'm having to pick up extra shifts at work to pay for my dress, I'm busy with this stupid wedding in general, and I want to spend time with Chris, and I'm just busy with-"

"Oh, here we go again," Ashton groans and folds his arms over his chest.

"What?" I narrow my eyes, "It's not like I forced Noelle to get married!"
