[emily]
Luke and I don't get to spend the whole day having fun with one another like he promised. Like all good things, they must be interrupted by your older brother asking if you can babysit while he picks up an extra shift at his job.
"You have awful timing," I groan, "I'm with somebody right now."
"I didn't know that, but I really need your help with this," Max practically pleads.
"Why can't you get Georgia to watch Parker?" I turn around to look i back at Luke and I's table through the window. My eyes meet with Luke's and he gives me a small wave.
"She's visiting her daughter and her family."
"Aren't there any other teenagers in your building looking to make another buck?" I sigh, embarrassed that I had to leave Luke inside as I answered this call.
"They're all stoners, Emily, please just do me this one favor!"
"I'm with somebody!" I sneer.
"Bring them to my apartment! I don't care, just please come and watch Parker," desperation is clear in his voice.
"Max-"
"I'll pay you double what I normally do," he says quickly.
"You don't pay me anything," I retort.
"Then I'll pay you ten dollars an hour," He corrects himself, "Please, Em."
"Fine," I say after a few moments of debating with myself.
"Thank you so damn much!" Max almost shouts.
I mutter what time I'll be at his apartment and hang up. Taking a deep breath, I look around the almost empty parking lot. I shut my eyes and stand there for a moment, enjoying the silence.
"Everything alright?" Luke's soft voice causes me to open my eyes.
"Yeah, it's okay," I slightly nod.
"You can talk to me, you know that right?" Luke faces me.
"First off, I want to say that I didn't plan on this happening," I start.
"What are you talking about?" Luke says, concern lacing his words.
"Well, my brother just called. He needs to pick up another shift at work so I have to go watch his son-"
"Hold up, Emily, you're making it sound like someone died! I understand if we need to end the day earlier than expected," Luke laughs.
"Oh," I feel my cheeks heat up.
"Do you need me to drive you?" he asks. I nod and he stands up. I follow suit and we walk back into the restaurant to pay for our meal. I let Luke pay, but insist that I pick up the check next time.
"Next time?" Luke turns to me with a smirk. I would've rolled my eyes at his somewhat cocky attitude if it weren't for his pink tinted cheeks.
"Next time," I nod with a smile.
I pretend to not notice Luke's idiotic grin, so his cheeks don't become even pinker than they already are. If that's even possible, that is. Luke and I then walk back to his car and we blast The 1975 as we drive off.
I navigate in the passenger seat and somehow manage to get Luke and I to Max's apartment.
"Here you are," Luke sighs as he turns down the volume of the stereo.
"Max said that you could come in if you wanted," I stare straight ahead, "I mean, if you want to, that is. I was actually thinking if you had some geometry practice, that I could do that."
