Luke spent several hours at my house after that episode of The Magic School Bus. I'm still surprised that he actually sat through the whole episode. Not many teenagers would be okay with watching a show meant for younger kids, let alone watching it on a Friday night. He left my house around midnight and we had a tutoring session later the next day.
This past week was hell. Full of nothing but tests and major grades that brought down my course averages. I was now failing Biology on top of Geometry. In other words, I am absolutely fucked. At least my parents aren't going to be home for another week so they won't see my grades.
The only decent thing that's happened this week is that I got to meet Luke's friends. Meghan had all of these appointments due to Noelle's wedding and horrible planning, so Meghan missed a couple days. Ashton texted me saying the he's been feeling awful, so he's in bed sick. That left me all alone during lunch and so I told Luke about it over the phone. We found out that we had the same lunches so he suggested that I go and sit with him and his friends. They're better than nothing.
"Why am I nervous?" I look up at Luke.
"I don't know, but don't worry about it, they're nice guys and they'll love you," He grins.
"I shouldn't be nervous about this. It's just meeting two other guys my age," I shrug.
"You'll be fine," Luke wraps his arm around my shoulder and pulls me in for a hug.
"I promise," He says and rests his head on top of mine. I take a deep breath and begin to calm down. He pulls away a few moments later and we smile at each other.
"C'mon, they're waiting for us," Luke takes my wrist and leads the way to the lunch table.
Soon, we walk up two guys sitting at a table and I hear one of them talking, "No, Mikey, you've got it all wrong, the SpongeBob episodes are way better than the first SpongeBob movie."
"Maybe the older episodes, but you can't generalize all of them. The first movie totally crushes the newer episodes," The other boy scoffs.
Luke clears his throat and they both quickly look up in surprise.
"Hey guys," Luke says as he sits down. The two boys then turn their attention to me and I can feel my cheeks heat up as Luke reaches for my wrist and tugs on it, gesturing for me to sit down. Once I do, the boys turn to Luke again.
"What do you think is better, the old episodes or the first movie?" The pale boy with light blue hair asks.
"I don't know, I like them both," Luke shrugs after thinking his answer through.
"What about you?" The other boy turns to me. I choke a little on the water I just took a sip of out of surprise.
"Um, I'd have to say the episodes were better, but just because they're more of them and the quantity factor is slightly better than the movie," I stammer, furrowing my eyebrows as I speak.
"Exactly," The boy turns to the blue-haired boy and smirks, "She understands."
"I'm sure 'she' has a name," blue-haired boy laughs.
"Do you have a name?" The other boy turns back to me.
"Yes, I do," I laugh, "I'm Emily."
"It's nice to finally meet someone with such exquisite opinions, Emily, I'm Calum."
"You only think her opinions are great because they're the same as yours," blue-haired boy rolls his eyes, "I'm Michael, by the way."
