Gargi entered her home lost in her thoughts. Sharanya hadn't really spoken much throughout the drive to her home. Gargi had first assumed it was because Arun was present too. However, when Sharanya didn't as much as meet her eyes, she knew something was up. She walked up to the kitchen filled two glasses with water and returned to the hall.
"What's up with you? You're awfully silent." Her husband pointed out keeping his phone aside, reaching for the glass of water in his wife's hand.
"Something was off with Sharanya,"
Arun sipped on the water and sat back on the couch facing his wife.
Gargi glanced at him. "What's on your mind?"
"Many things," He admitted honestly. "First things first, what do you think about Aunty? Do you think she liked Sharanya?"
"Not much. When we were in the kitchen she told me that Sharanya is the third person she's met in person to find a match for Nikhil. She said the woman she met last week was nice. I take it she was trying to give me a hint to not be surprised if Sharanya and Nikhil don't become a thing."
"Last week," Arun repeated surprised, Nikhil didn't tell him that he met another woman after meeting Sharanya. Nikhil wasn't much of a person who discussed his matters with anyone but yet he was surprised how Nikhil didn't mention anything at all.
"Yeah. And then she was asking about Sharanya's family's financial background. She also said that Sheetal, the other woman, is also from the same caste and was introduced via Nikhil's grandma."
"I will talk to Nikhil about this."
"I think he likes Sharanya." Gargi said after drinking from her glass.
"I thought that way too, but why would he see another person..."
"Well, he's not you," Gargi said resting her elbow on the backrest of the couch, her fingers rubbing the back of her neck, as she smiled at her husband fondly. "I can't ever forget that look on your face when you first saw me. It was so... magical."
Arun smiled with a kind of blush on his cheeks. "Guess I was a very lucky man," He said, his hand reaching out to caress his wife's cheek. "I thought you'd be a in high spirits... what's bothering you?" He asked meeting her gaze, his smile wavering.
"Sharanya... she didn't seem happy. She looked conflicted." Gargi sighed.
Arun scooted closer to her. "It's natural for her to be conflicted, isn't it? I mean she has a life changing decision to make."
"Hmm, the reason why I didn't probe much. By the way did you find out if you can refer her for a job opening at your office?"
"I spoke to Suman. She said referrals don't apply to HR Division. I told her to send me a list of current openings. I will remind her on Wednesday if one doesn't come in by then."
"Hmm,"
"I am still not able to understand why my moon isn't smiling yet?" He said caressing her cheek.
She held his hand and looked at him. "I am worried for Sharanya. I want her to be happy but she's just... I don't know. She's not what she used to be and it only gets worse as time passes."
"You are doing your best as a friend, Gargi. Ultimately, it is her who has to make a choice."
"Yes, I know. But I can't help but think maybe if I had been as actively involved in her life when she needed me, things would be better."
