There was pin drop silence at the dinning table after Senior Mrs. Kumar had announced that Tanisha's parents had called to ask what they think about the alliance.

"Isn't it too soon Maa? I have barely met her a few times." Saahil spoke up. He liked Tanisha. But a few weeks were not enough to know somebody and decide if he would be ready to spend a lifetime with them.

His mother shrugged. "They just want to know if it's a yes or no. Look, if you say yes they will stop looking. If you don't say anything then they'll remain in uncertainty. So whether it's a yes or no you must tell us."

"You don't like her." Saahil stated.

"I never said that!"

Nikhil wanted to intervene and announce that she had a similar impression for Sharanya. But he decided to keep quiet and be a bystander in the drama. His gaze discreetly landed on his wife who sat on the next chair, looking between Saahil and his mother.

"What do you want to hear from me Maa? In the morning you said you want me to see Gayatri. Now you're telling me to say a yes or a no to Tanisha. It's all very contradictory." Saahil spoke up. "Unless you want me to say a No, that would make sense."

"Saahil," Mrs. Kumar let out a deep breath. "Frankly, I don't think Tanisha will make a good wife. She goes around behaving like a young girl not a young woman. There's a difference."

"Maa, which of the two am I?" Shreya interrupted the conversation with an amusement that was only specific to her. She only got a glare from her mother. "Whatever!" She mumbled. Nikhil's eyes sparkled catching his sister's amusement.

"I need to make a call," Nikhil muttered excusing himself. The conversation was clearly a waste of time.

"I am out of here too. This is going nowhere," Shreya said.

"Sit," her mother ordered.

Nikhil who had washed his hands quickly wiped it. He had to slip out before his mother asked him to sit too. Luckily, he was able to get out. He didn't have a call to make. But he was sure he could put the time into better use. He had to learn and read about pregnancy. He remembered Arun complaining about Gargi being moody. He had to know what to expect as an expecting father.

He couldn't imagine his wife to be moody enough to piss him off. But if it was a possibility he must learn how to tackle that.

Sharanya sat silently at the table. Her mother-in-law could be more than a little bossy at times. She would never admit that in words but that was a fact.

"You decide by morning and let me know." Her mother-in-law spoke looking at Saahil. "And it's only saying yes and an engagement, I am not asking you to marry tomorrow!"

Sharanya sighed looking at Saahil who looked irritated and confused. Shreya and her mother-in-law left the kitchen soon after that. Saahil stuck around to help her clear the table.

"This is so stupid!" He muttered as he placed the used dishes in the sink. "How am I supposed to decide so fast?"

"Saahil, that's what happens in arranged marriages. You look at it from the other family's perspective. The parents would obviously want the best guy for their daughter."
