Sharanya sat smiling across the tiny table as Nikhil told her how he had discovered this place in the city. He even knew the guy who owned the place. The otherwise quiet Nikhil could speak at length about how these specially flavoured ice creams were made. Sharanya had to admit she absolutely loved the Kaju Katli Flavour Ice cream. Nikhil easily consumed seventy-five percent of the ice-cream in the tub while she barely reached a fifteen, the remaining of the ice-cream melting away as they spoke.
The topic drifted from ice-cream to sweets and somehow ended up on restaurants. Sharanya was surprised that half an hour had gone by. Nikhil generally spoke about things when he was packed with information about the topic. Sharanya was happy to learn about what he liked what he didn't for instance, he loved the coconut flavoured ice-cream of which she couldn't swallow a single bite. They had difference in their preferences no doubt. But she could probably attempt to make it for him sometime in the future.
As they reached the bike, he sat first, with his helmet on. The city had gone quiet with occasional vehicles zipping past. "Do I have to wear this?" She asked, fidgeting with the helmet. She couldn't stand the smell of the helmet.
"Of course,"
"We'll reach home in less than fifteen minutes," she reasoned. "Do you think there will be cops at this hour?"
"It's a rule for your safety so wear it." He said, dismissing her pleas. Sighing she wore it. Placing her hand on his shoulder for support, she mounted on the bike behind him.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Yes," she answered, this time both her hands around his waist.
By the time they reached home it was a few minutes past eleven. They made sure to make less noise while entering the house. Shirisha who was in the living area reading a book, greeted them with a teasing smile. Sharanya quickly wished her good night and Nikhil followed her suit climbing up the stairs.
Nikhil closed the door behind him. Suddenly a looming silence fell. Sharanya quickly moved towards her bag and brought out her clothes for the night. She turned around taking off her dupatta to keep it on the table almost running into Nikhil who was approaching his bag. She took in a deep breath as he looked into her eyes. Her brain froze. He smiled and moved out of her way. Sharanya squeezed her eyes shut.
What was she even thinking?
She hurried into the washroom. As soon as Nikhil heard the door shut he let out a sharp exhale. Was he imagining or did she actually look prettier than she looked through the day? A small involuntary smile played on his lips while he rummaged the contents of his bag for his night pants. She actually looked very pretty in that deep red colour. But nothing could beat that saree look she had donned on their wedding reception.
When she stepped out he couldn't help but notice her neck, given that she had put up her hair. She picked up the jug on the side table and frowned finding it empty. "I will go fill it," she said and turned and walked away.
After a quick wash up and change Nikhil stepped out. He assumed that Sharanya had probably stopped on the way to chat with Shirisha. He grabbed his phone as he sat on the bed. After some thought he opened Google search to find out about how to know when a woman was interested in you.
