Sharanya and Nikhil had both got busy with the little and big things of day-to-day life. The first week of the new year had been extremely exhausting as they returned home after the trip.
Sharanya had lived the best days of her life in the past few days. She could ask for nothing. She had once heard her father use the phrase— golden period of life, the time when everything went right for an individual. Perhaps this was hers. She had the best vacation of her life, had finished with the joining process with the new firm— a better job, a better pay, and her periods weren't as painful as they usually were this time around. If this was not the golden period of her life, she didn't know what was.
She couldn't take her eyes off her company's ID badge. For once her picture had come good on a ID. She was excited about her new job. The people in the team were warm and welcoming. She had finally got the jump in career she always needed.
"Hey," she looked up to find Nikhil walking inside the room. He had been super busy with work after coming back. Their were pending issues he had to handle and other things that needed his attention. He had become so busy that he wouldn't even come for a walk with her.
It was Friday evening and finally he was home at his usual time instead of nine and ten in the night.
"You didn't rung the bell," she said.
"I did, looks like there's some fault with it. I opened the door using my keys. I'll call the electrician to fix it."
"Oh, okay." Sharanya said. "How was your day?" She asked, keeping her bag aside.
"Better." He said sitting on the bed, removing his shoes. She watched him as he undid the top buttons of his shirt near the collar.
"So," He turned to her, "I know I have been crazy busy but I really wanted to ask you how your first week at work has been."
Sharanya smiled slowly. Finally, Sharanya thought to herself. She had really begun to think that the Nikhil on the trip was an alternate personality to this Nikhil who was occupied with work all the time. Even if he was at the dining table he'd barely talk because his mind would be at work.
"It's been good, great actually so far."
He smiled and picked up the ID card. His gaze read her name twice. Sharanya Kumar.
"Finally a good picture on the ID card," she smiled.
He gazed up at her and back at the picture. "Yes, you look nice. How long did it take you to reach?" He asked, handing back the ID card. He stood up turning to look at her.
"Around thirty five minutes." She answered. "The cab came quickly."
"I can drop you really, ...wait I need to use the loo." Saying that he rushed to the bathroom. A chuckle escaped Sharanya's lips. She quickly gathered her stuff from the bed and started putting it all at the right place.
"Did you see my towel?" He asked stepping out. Sharanya picked it up from the table where she had neatly folded it and placed it.
"Here," she said chucking it towards him.
