THERE WAS SOMETHING ABOUT HOSPITALS THAT TERRIFIED HER.
Maybe it was the smell of alcohol and bleach mixed with the air, or the dreary looks on the relatives of people who'd been admitted inside the facility.
Perhaps it was because hospitals often were the places where people take their last breaths, and lose their lives.
Or the most likely reason, was that her mentor and idol, the divine shooter of Japan had passed away years ago within white walls too.
Utsui Futakuchi let out a shaky breath as she watched the steady beeping of the heart rate monitor in front of her.
Her eyes were weary as she looked at the raven haired girl laid atop the hospital bed, with her back elevated so slightly to assist her breathing through the oxygen mask.
It had been four hours and thirty six minutes since Ymari had been admitted into Hyogo General Hospital.
Utsui was just looking back to check if her friend was still there, after the former left to join the group that was mid-chatter about their next Hyogo adventure, when she saw that the latter was collapsing on the asphalt road.
She immediately rushed to her aid, as with the other delegates, including the Prodigal Five and Arsenic— all of which were worried sick for the girl.
When they got to her she'd ready collapsed back-first onto the asphalt, with her eyes sealed shut. And when Utsui tried to check her irises, her eyes were rolled to the back of her head like she was having an attack of some sort.
They didn't wait for an ambulance, and instead, Reo drove them to the nearest hospital after Kaibara and Arsenic carried the unconscious and cold Ymari to the white van.
Now, four hours and thirty six minutes later, the Nippon team was back in the villa packing up for their return to Tokyo tomorrow, while the prodigies stayed behind at the hospital with Utsui after much protest.
"I just got off a call with Coach Inko." Kaibara entered the room, her voice filling the white space.
Utsui looked up at her, her eyes were red and cheeks were puffed as she'd been crying earlier. "What'd she say?"
"Your captain's benched for the rest of the tour." Kaibara relayed. "And that she already called her guardian."
Utsui had been so stuck in worry and guilt for not noticing earlier on that Ymari was ill, that she had forgotten to contact Sana-obaasan. So she was grateful that Inko-san did it for her.
"Thanks." She mumbled.
"We're all leaving for Tokyo tomorrow." Kaibara said, taking a seat at an empty chair beside the door. "Klein's talking to the doctor so Seinaru can be transferred to a different hospital."
