THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL, is what the famous song lyric says. But is that really true?

They take the fame, the glory, the trophies, medals, and cash prizes— but those are all superficial. They're material and impermanent things that wouldn't last a decade if not taken care of.

But losers, on the other hand..

They get more than they bargained for. What they'd hoped would be the trophy, turns out to be something better.

They get experience. They learn by losing, and by their passion, they turn that learning into a strength to learn a skill that will prevent them from being at the bottom again.

Losing wasn't something unfamiliar to her. In fact, it was something she'd learned at a very young age. And she had to learn it in the most difficult way possible.

Mazoku Oni Amaterasu was someone who most parents would dream of to have as a child. At age 2 ½ years old, she was already able to read and write. At age 4, she could fluently speak English. In primary school, she aced her tests, was amazing at recitation— and come fifth grade, she was dubbed the best shooting guard in the nation (primary level) over a sport she'd just started when she was a fourth grader.

It was all going well for her, not until that one fateful day when her fate got entangled with someone else's.

She had just gotten accustomed to basketball that year. But having been dubbed the best shooting guard in primary in all of Japan, her coach back then sought the guidance of the Divine Shooter, who was already in retirement despite her still attending practice matches with her old teammates for fun.

Sena Seinaru agreed to take on a pupil then. And Amaterasu was completely in awe of her. Her form was perfect, her playing style was flawles, and to the little girl, the Divine Shooter looked like an angel when she played ball.

She wanted to be like her.

She wanted Sena Seinaru to look at her and say, "You're starting to play like I do."

She desperately wanted that.

But a year later, someone new came into the picture.

A raven haired girl with heterochromatic blue and green eyes who was in a year below her. Ymari S. Amanozako was the fifth grade daughter of Sena Seinaru-Amanozako.

At first, despite being hesitant with the arrival of the girl, she had still welcomed her. Practiced drills with her, and even complimented her form sometimes.

However, as time passed, Amaterasu noticed that the Divine Shooter's eyes were no longer looking at her.

With every hook shot, half-court basket, and ankle-breaker that the raven haired girl pulled, the more Sena's attention became drawn to her own daughter.
