CHAPTER 59|HEREAFTER

It went dark
And then it went light
Then it was warm, and so, so bright, i was so comfortable
Open your eyes
I don't want to yet
But you have to

When I did open my eyes, I was in a white room, sat in a chair- words above me wrote
"The sweet hereafter"

I looked around in confusion
Is this the void? It seemed a lot more...welcoming than I had expected
I heard some sort of door creak open behind me, and he there stood
Michael?

A confused smile fell on my face, my anxiety soothing at a familiar face, I followed as he motioned towards the door gently
We moved to some sort of strange office space, still white with the classic ancient paintings on the walls, I sat down quietly as Michael looked through some papers, still heavily confused

"What's going on?" I asked him as I stayed seated, he finally cleared his throat to me

"You're in heaven" he said matter of factly, I nodded slowly

"I can see that, I'm a demon, shouldn't I be in hell?" I questioned him, and he looked through the papers again

"Well, since you became a demon through the term 'binding' from Lucifer Morningstar, the moment he was abdicated from the throne,
You became mortal" he explained to me, I stuttered

"Abdicated? Wha-" I stuttered, Michael continued

"As an angel born mortal it is your sworn birthright to come back to heaven, oh and I suppose saving the universe does grant you some brownie points" I waited patiently

"So what? I'm a mortal now?" I asked

"Well, no
You see- you're still gods favorite angel, and my favorite sibling
So I pulled some strings" he grinned at me, I scoffed

"You are stripped of your rank as arch angel as of right now,
And are downgraded to reaper for 1111 years" I let out a groan

"Reaper?! Really?" I looked at him annoyed, he tutted at me

"If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't even be a thing anymore, not a soul, not a body
Nothing
Be grateful, after your duties you can rejoin angel community, with the rest of the souls and work your way back to arch angel" he finished, now having a genuine smile on his lips

"It's good to have you back Eden" I slumped slightly, smiling back

"It's good to be back"

-TIME SKIP-
I waited by the door in my angel attire, I felt at peace
Guess I was always meant to be an angel
I did think back to caliban... how I wish I could see him once more- I had no clue where he could've even gone

Was he back in hell? Surely not if he was in the void, but nowhere to be seen
I just wish I could've said goodbye

I prepped myself as I walked through the door silently, waiting to call the names on my book

As i looked down to it, preparing, a sad smile was created
Sabrina Spellman
Nicholas Scratch

I sighed as I leant on the door, letting them finish their sentence

"Sabrina Spellman and Nicholas Scratch"
They both turned in surprise at the call of their names,
And I could see the uncontainable grin on Sabrina's face as she recognized me

"Welcome to heaven, the sweet hereafter" I said professionally, Sabrina still smiling as she walked towards me in surprise

"Eden? Is it really you?" I nodded, clearing my throat
"It's me, now would you mind following me so I can get you settled?
And I'll see you very soon"

-1111 YEARS LATER-
I sighed ready to put on my happy face
My final day as the reaper, I flattened my clothes as I prepared to bring in the final soul for the day

I had seen many familiar faces in the time here,
All old and greying, the children and grandchildren of the kids I used to go to school with- it brought a pain whenever I saw them
It was the worst bit of being the reaper- seeing people you recognized

I opened my book getting ready to tick the final name off- it was another name I recognized
I froze in surprise, double and triple checking the name- I finally decided to go see for myself, opening the door to the waiting room

And there he was- sat there, looking at the decorated walls confused

"Caliban?"

my voice was hesitant, and he turned around to look at me, shocked

I practically dropped everything and ran over to him, throwing myself at him in a tight hug

"I thought you died" I choked out, looking up at him stroking his head, he looked lost

"Why are you here?" He asked defensively, I looked at him affectionately

"You're in heaven, we're in heaven
It's okay" he stopped me stroking his head, I looked lazily to him

"I don't know who told you, that I didn't love you, or that I didn't care about you
But they lied to you, I love you- I never said it enough
I love you, I love you, I love you" I looked up at him desperately, waiting for a reaction

He held his hand to my face gently, bringing me closer towards him
And finally, after 1111 years, the familiar and loving lips graced my own, I obliged happily, feeling at peace

I held my hand out to him as I departed, leading him through the door, and finally slowly made our way into heaven, this time together

He was back, the love my life
