What would one feel when an exam so important that it could determine the path one chooses for the future was only less than one month away and only drawing closer and closer? Anxiety, fright, and dread, I suppose. However, in Subaru's case, those kinds of feeling were kept at a minimum. It wasn't because he was one hundred and twenty percent well prepared for the exam, and it wasn't because the fact that the result of the exam wouldn't affect him whatsoever either. It was simply because that the heavy studying they did in the last bit of the vacation somewhat got them adapted to intense reviews given by the teachers, and in this month between the start of the new semester and the exam, many things also happened that sort of worn him out again.

On the last day of the winter break after Hinata, Aki, and Haruka left, an incident that almost gave everyone in the apartment a heart attack occurred. Subaru and Rem went on a walk together, but ten minutes later, Emilia, Ram, and Beatrice were all horrified when they saw Rem bursting through the door and carrying Subaru who seemed to be unconscious.

-Flashback-

Subaru and Rem just left for the walk, and Beatrice and Puck were playing with a balloon together while Emilia watched them, beaming. Ram was sitting by the dining table and thinking about what to cook for dinner. "Ram, what will we be having for dinner today? Do you need any help?" Emilia asked when Beatrice and Puck came to a pause. Ram bowed her head and told Emilia what she had planned for dinner. "Emilia-sama, Ram is thinking that we could--" But they never got to know what exactly Ram was thinking since at that moment, the door burst open and Rem rushed in, carrying Subaru who seemed limp and unconscious.

Everyone was temporarily immobilized by what they were seeing while Rem, panting slightly and with tears glittering in her eyes, stood there, still holding Subaru tightly, and the next second, the four of them all ran to them, still too horrified to make a sound. "Rem!! What happened!?!?!" Emilia was the first one to find her voice. "Rem... Rem doesn't know, Emilia-sama...! We were just walking by the convenience store, and Subaru-kun suddenly... suddenly collapsed! Rem didn't know what caused Subaru-kun to faint... Rem couldn't sense any presence of danger or other magic users either... Everything was so confusing..." Rem answered, her voice trembling badly.

As Rem explained what happened, Beatrice and Puck wasted no time in checking what exactly happened to Subaru, and as soon as Subaru was brought to his room and gently laid on his bed, Beatrice and Puck had had a result for the diagnosis. "It seems that the flow of mana in Subaru's body was badly disrupted..." Puck said, his expression serious, and Beatrice was already using healing magic, the expression on her face worried and serious as well. "What?! How is it even possible?? Rem, didn't you say you couldn't sense any magic users around you?" Emilia asked, turning to Rem.

"Yes, Emilia-sama, Rem couldn't detect anything or anyone that could possibly harm us. But... as Beatrice-sama and Puck-sama explained before, this could be the work of magic users native to this world... Rem is very sorry... if only she is more--"
"Rem, it is fine, don't blame yourself. You have already brought Subaru back as quickly as possible so Puck and Beatrice can help treat him without wasting any time." Emilia said encouragingly, though her voice was shaking as well.

"Emilia is right, Rem. You've done well, in fact. If you brought Subaru back any later, things might really get out of control, Betty supposes." Beatrice said, her small palms placed on Subaru's chest. Puck was doing the same, and Subaru's expression, previously looking rather painful, was easing. A few moments later, Ram came in the room with a wet towel and a bucket of iced water. Rem took the towel from her sister, folded it, and placed it on Subaru's forehead softly, her hands, trembling earlier, were steadier now. "Mattaku, Barusu. What sort of trouble have you gotten yourself into this time?" Ram said, folding her arms and frowning, nevertheless, the concern in her tone was obvious to everyone.
