- - - beginning of season 4 - - -

As I stood with Oscar outside my parents' house, I felt my palms growing sweaty. I tried to wipe them discreetly on my pants, but the nerves wouldn't quit.

"They're gonna kill us," I whispered, staring at the house. "They'll scream, and then they'll kill us."

Oscar chuckled, which only made me glare at him. "This isn't funny!" I protested, giving him a light smack on the chest. "It's serious! Telling my parents I'm pregnant at 17, with no job, no degree..."

Gently, Oscar took my shoulders, turned me to face him, and gave me a kiss on the forehead. "Relax, mi amor. They're going to be shocked, sure, but they'll come around. Just give them time."

His calmness helped steady me, and I managed a small smile. "You're right."

With newfound determination, I rang the bell, and we waited. Oscar leaned close to whisper, "And if it doesn't go well, I'll use you as a shield. They're more likely to kill me than you."

I shot him an annoyed look, but he just flashed that confident smirk of his. Then the door opened, snapping us out of our little exchange.

My mom looked at me with her eyebrows raised, as we stepped inside to take off our jackets and shoes. "Why did you ring the doorbell? Did you lose your key again?"

I rolled my eyes and played along, leaning into the sarcasm. "Oh, hi, Mom. Great to see you too! Yes, we've been fantastic, thanks for asking. And yes, we're definitely looking forward to whatever amazing dinner you've made."

She shot me an ironic smile but didn't press further.

At dinner, after some small talk, I finally found the courage to bring up the real reason we were there.

"Mom, Dad, there's something important I need to tell you," I began, my voice faltering slightly. The words tumbled out all at once, spilling faster than I could keep up with them.

"Look, I know this might not be the ideal timing. I totally get that. But then again, is there ever a perfect time? Life doesn't always follow a schedule. And as long as you have someone who loves you and a family who's there to support you, everything will work out, right? I'll get my degree soon—don't worry about that. We're not asking to move back in with you or anything. We're planning to get our own place and make our own way, with just a little help from you at first. And I really believe, after the initial shock, you'll both be happy for us and—"

"Sweetheart," my dad interjected, his voice gentle but steady. "Slow down. We still have no idea what you're trying to tell us."

I glanced at Oscar, who picked up where I left off. "What Elly is trying to say," he explained, "is that we're having a baby."

Their eyes went wide, and I held my breath. My mom asked, her voice shaky, "Is that true, Elly?"

I nodded, relieved. "Yes, Mom, it's true. You're going to be grandparents."

My dad was the first to speak. "Wow... I'm surprised and feel like a truck just hit me, but I'm very happy for you both." He stood, hugging me tightly before congratulating Oscar with a smile.

I glanced over at my mom, who had stayed silent. Finally, she spoke, and her words lifted the weight from my heart. "The timing isn't perfect, but is it ever? A new child is a blessing, and I'll welcome this little one with open arms."

Overwhelmed, I felt a tear roll down my face. In that moment, I was grateful—grateful for Oscar, for the baby, and for the unconditional love and support of my family.

With them by my side, I felt like nothing could go wrong.

Or could it?
