Torres faded in and out of a feverish daze. Every day in captivity was monotone. First, he would never sleep, only listen to the bone-chilling screams of women that emanated from the other rooms surrounding him. Choke down a breakfast of his emotions. Then it was visiting hours. They got right to business interrogating him, then torturing him when they didn't get the answer they wanted. Wash, rinse, repeat. Given the pain, the torturous circumstances, sometimes he questioned why he had the will to stay alive.
One of his tormentors unwittingly gave him relief by providing the answer. ¿Por qué no va a morir? Why won't he just die? Porque es un maldito hijo de puta terco. Because he's a damn stubborn son-of-a-bitch.
They think I'm being stubborn, he thought gleefully through the pain, they don't know me stubborn yet.
