Three days after the incident.

All of 1-a and 1-b are near the recovery room, standing, sitting, floor, chair, whatever.

Inside was Taiyo Makihara, the quirkless prodigy who had won the sports festival with his batons and a villainous grin. It wasn't his fault, though, it was too late to tell him that.

You remember approaching him in the gym, training with the hero killer, and how he apologised to you for everything he had done. He saw his errors after the internships, he was used, just to test some dumb machinery. Sure, it's what he deserved at the time, but now, you wish you could've told him.

Taiyo, I forgive you. I never wanted to see you this way. I guess it's too late now, though. You tried to prove that you wanted to change your approach to becoming a relatable hero to the quirkless. By chasing after None For All. I'd like to say that was a stupid move and if not for Hoshiko, you'd be dead by now, but, this isn't the time. It's my fault. You had to prove to me that you had amended your ways, and now...

Hoshiko: You okay?

Y/N: No. This is all my fault, if I'd just forgiven him like I always do, he'd be okay.

Hoshiko: Y/N. He would have gone after him regardless. He wanted to prove to the whole world that he wasn't just this asshole from the sports festival. He wanted to show that he changed himself for the better, by taking out the greatest threat that the world had ever seen.

Y/N: Still, I think I pushed him.

Hoshiko: He was training to do this before you told him that you were going to have to see an improvement. He did this on his own.

Y/N: Still. I was a part in that, I was one of the people he had to prove himself to, to get recognition. Maybe he was right, he was never noticed due to him being quirkless, he bottled that shit up and it released onto us. I thought winning the sports festival would get all the recognition he wanted, but he got all the wrong kinds.

Hoshiko holds you tighter, stroking your head.

Hoshiko: How long's it been since you got a kiss from me?

Y/N: Not the time, but around five minutes.

Hoshiko: Too long. After all, how can you go through this without a few?

Y/N: I don't know.

She kisses your cheek, while rubbing your head. You fall into her lap, face up towards your unofficial wife, looking into her eyes.

Y/N: He could have been a good friend.

Hoshiko: You're saying it like he's already dead.

Y/N: What's he got to live for? A cruel world that hates him because he wasn't gifted with cool powers? An asshole that hates his guts because he mistreated the guy's girl? I don't really see him having the will to live at this point.

Hoshiko: I don't really know what to do here. I wish I could help you.

Y/N: It's fine Hoshi. I just get like this when something bad happens, it's always my fault as far as I'm concerned.

Hoshiko: That's a shit way to live. Trust me, I know.

Y/N: I guess you'd know all about that.

You chuckle weakly.

Hoshiko: It's much easier to believe something that you've come up with than something that someone else told you. You can go out of your way to prove them wrong. I did that, and look at me now. I guess, if you've been like this for your whole life then, I don't know what I can do.

Y/N: It's fine. I'll just grow out of it, like I always do.

The sinking feeling in everyone's chests paled towards your own as the doctor came out with a solemn face.

She only nodded, confirming what her face told you.

(Tbh, I feel like this is a powerful moment.)

Everyone nods back, some crying, some laying their heads in defeat and some keeping their blank expressions on, presumably to act strong. You knew their pillows would be drenched by the end of the night.

You left the room, and returned to your dorm. Hoshiko put her arm around your waist, and told you,

Hoshiko: I know you feel it's your fault. It's not. You had nothing to do with it.

You lay on the bed and close your eyes, needing the rest.

???: So, now you feel sorry.

Y/N: Huh?

You wake to find no Hoshiko, the same concrete slab over your legs. You look over.

Taiyo?!

Taiyo: You happy now? I'm gone! There! Now you and your 'girlfriend' can live in peace, knowing that the fucking 'maniac with a sword' isn't going to hurt you.

Y/N: Taiyo. What the Hell? I'll tell you this now. I forgive everything you did, from the moment you tried to chase None For All. I thought of you as a real hero, you had real bravery. I understand the persona now, but you really did put the safety of others before yourself. I should have told you that before you died.

Taiyo: Damn right you should have.

You go to break the slab, holding your hands out, nothing.

Taiyo: I thought you might want to see what it's like to be me.

Y/N: Why do you haunt me?

Taiyo: I looked to the one man who forgave everyone, and you know what he said?

Y/N: Yes. All too fucking clearly.

Taiyo: Good. You know, that girlfriend of yours is getting to become a hassle for you. She makes you do things you'd never do.

Y/N: I'm not breaking up with her on a ghost's word.

You feel the earth shake, more falling concrete drops down, he leaps into the air and slices the slab that would have connected with your face.

Taiyo: Fine then. Go back to her. You'll be worse off, know this, the way you are when she's around caused that shit.

In an instant, you are in your own bed, a crying Hoshiko at your side.

Y/N: A dream?

Hoshiko: You sounded so scared.

You notice a red mark on her arm, the shape of a hand that gripped it too tightly.

You hold her arm in your hand, a tear dropping from every ounce of pain you caused.

Hoshiko: This is about you. Not me.

You rub your face with her arm, kissing the near bruised limb.

Y/N: I-I-I'm so s-s-sorry.

Hoshiko: No, don't be, you needed something to grab while struck with whatever that was.

Y/N: You probably got so many flashbacks, oh my god.

You start to cry.

Hoshiko: I just remember that you're the one squeezing, okay.
