A day since Taiyo's death.
You sit on the bed, without motivation to do anything. You look back to what the dream told you last night. You look to Hoshiko.
Have I become an ignorant, unforgiving little asshole, reserving my kindness only for you? That can't be. But, it is. Shit. I know she'd never recover from breaking up or anything, and I don't want to. I'd be betraying her, after all the trust she put in me, to throw it away like that. Also, I love her.
A knock on your door. You open to see the professional, air chopping principal.
Iida: I have something to tell you. You're not going to like it.
Y/N: What is it? Makihara's dead, so I don't know how bad it can get from here.
Iida: Your friend, Souta Kaneko, he was found talking to another over an earpiece in the toilets. On further investigation, we found he was giving information to the Uniters, as they call themselves.
Y/N: So what?
Iida: He ratted out his co-worker.
Y/N: Why you telling me this?
You step back, almost to fall, the sinking feeling in your chest balancing you.
Iida: Hoshiko Chisaki. She's been working with them. He sounded quite angry using her name, meaning that she might not have even done anything. Or is not doing anything now.
She wakes to find her principal and her unofficial husband at the door. She looks hard, only to see a look of betrayal from her boyfriend's eye.
There was no telling what you felt, hope, betrayal, anger, sadness, it couldn't be guessed.
Hoshiko: I can explain. I swear, please, don't leave.
She gets down on her knees.
To the man who forgave everyone.
The words come back.
Y/N: I'll listen. I'd like to believe you didn't betray me.
Hoshiko: I haven't, I haven't even picked up the earpiece since I got here.
She takes the earpiece out of a drawer, and crushes it.
Hoshiko: I was supposed to be a spy. My father faked a recommendation after he got out of prison, I was made to go in.
Y/N: Okay. Sounds believable.
Hoshiko: I did it out of fear, all it was, was going to UA and feeding information. It definitely beat facing my father.
Y/N: Okay.
Hoshiko: I went to class on the first day, hearing my father's name and being reminded of him, the judgement I faced, and everything that went with being a Chisaki.
Y/N: Good thing I helped you with that I guess.
Your arms shake, with the residual feeling in your blood that she could be a traitor.
Hoshiko: I met you, the first day. The first person to not judge me with his eyes. I knew you'd keep me safe, I never wanted to be in UA, much less to spy on them. I'm glad I went, after all I met you.
Y/N: Hoshiko. Don't try the emotions, they're drained already.
Hoshiko: That's the thing, I never ended up feeding them a word, because, you showed me there was another way.
Y/N: Hoshiko. Look, I think I need some time alone, this hasn't been healthy lately.
Hoshiko: No. You'll just get worse, I've seen what happens when you're in your own thoughts, you just descend, I don't want to stand by if a rope goes around your neck. I want to be the one that saved you! Please let me help, I know it's been difficult these past days, one day, someone dies, next you're told your girlfriend is a traitor. It'll only get worse if you're kept to yourself.
You smirk, your face still hidden by shadow, your head comes from its lowly position to meet eyes with those of Hoshiko.
Y/N: No-one makes a speech like that on the spot. I heard no 'umm' in your story, and you expressed your care for me in a way, that, you just can't fake.
Iida: She smashed the earpiece, so we won't be able to look through its history. We won't be sure. Keep an eye on her, and don't let your love get in the way.
Y/N: She will be in my sight, I guess.
Iida: Good.
Hoshiko: Thank you.
Y/N: Hm?
Hoshiko: Thank you! Every time I think that something happens between us that'll end us, you brush it off.
Y/N: Yeah. I guess.
Taiyo's words keep repeating in your head.
The way you are when she's around. Ah! He never even said that. Why does she have to come into this? What's wrong with her? Nothing.
The voice in your head speaks.
Taiyo: You reserve your kindness and understanding for her only. Do what you're known for, forgiving others, everyone.
Get the fuck out of my head.
You grunt, drawing it out, while on your knees, holding your head.
Hoshiko: You okay?
Y/N: It's all in my head again.
You look to her arm, still with the marks on it.
I did that. To her. I promised her I'd never hurt her. Argh fuck.
Hoshiko hides her marked arm from you, kissing you as she does.
Hoshiko: You were scared, you needed something to grab.
Y/N: I hurt you, and I hurt everyone, I hurt Taiyo, I've become something else. How long is it before I'm just like everyone else?
Hoshiko is taken aback, holding her chest at seeing you this way.
Hoshiko: I guess you've forgotten.
Y/N: Forgotten what?
Hoshiko: How much you mean to me. Who you were to me.
Y/N: I guess I have. What am I to you?
Hoshiko: There's a lot. The first person to look at me without my name already swaying his views. The man who did a marriage ceremony to somewhat clear it. The one who loved me, above all else. The one who made me feel safe, for the first time in my life.
Y/N: I love you.
Hoshiko: I love you too. Trust me. I'm not throwing that around.
Y/N: I know you're not. Wanna go somewhere?
Hoshiko: Yes.
