the hashiras continued to glare at Shinobu, not trusting her in the slightest. the butterfly-like demon sighed and stared back in annoyance, "a deal's a deal. i'm not even going to harm him anyway, so calm down."

"and how can we trust you?" Zenitsu stared at her with stern eyes.

Shinobu held her head in her left hand, frustrated, before looking up again. "i'm not doing any experiments or whatever on him. i just need him for a while for some... important business."

"define 'important business'," Genya raised his non-existent eyebrow whilst talking in a curious yet suspicious tone.

Shinobu knew that he would not agree to follow her if she did not tell him and since she was running out of time as well, she just cut to the chase.

"i know you want to talk to Chi-san, Shinazugawa-kun. and i know fully well that he does too," she stated in a straight face.

his other pillars stared at him in confusion, eyes asking him questions.

Genya started questioning how she knew his name and his thoughts, but didn't want to waste the opportunity. "alright then."

Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke seemed to be defiant in Genya's decision. Tanjiro opened his mouth to protest but was stopped by someone firmly but delicately gripping his shoulder.

Tanjiro didn't flinch at the touch, only turning around, ready to shout at them too, but was surprised to see Kanao.

"i think we should just let him go, i doubt that she wouldn't hurt him. anyway, Shinazugawa-san did also seem like he wanted to talk to the demon boy badly," Kanao didn't meet his eyes (out of a slight embarrassment) and said in a hopeful tone.

Tanjiro stared at Kanao for a while, taking time to think for a while before finally giving in. Zenitsu managed to understand quicker while Aoi had to give Inosuke a big scolding and explanation for him to eventually shut up and say in the corner, sulking bitterly.

Genya pov

Shi opened a traditional paper umbrella that she had left leaning against one of the walls outside the house. it was embroiled with butterflies and flowers of different pastel colours. a thought suddenly stroke me.

"hang on, even if you have an umbrella to block the sun, how did you get here alive?! even if you're a higher rank you should have at least been paralysed for the wisteria vines!"

she simply stared at me with her annoying, mocking smile back on her face and kept her silence. i frustratedly sighed, still wanting an answer.

"whatever, but you didn't leave Chi in the forest right?" to this question, she at least shook her head. i huffed in relief and nodded in acknowledgement.

she led me towards the forest, but far enough that the purple-hanging flowers' toxins couldn't reach her.

"blood demon art: wilting delusion," she chanted. i watched as a swarms and kaleidoscopes of jet black butterflies and bees rushed into the forest, creating a wilted path among the trees that was safe for demons. i stood there in shock, jaw dropped.

"that's how." she giggled. "let's hurry up now, Chi-san is waiting."

i slapped myself back to reality and followed the female figure that was disappearing in the forest.

if their so powerful and can even avoid the toxin of wisteria, how are we even going to stand a chance?

"oi, how do you know my name?" i asked as 'politely' as i could, but unsurprisingly just could not execute it in that desired tone.

the girl stopped for a moment, searching for an excuse before settling on an answer. "it's none of your business. i'm doing you a favour right now so just be grateful," she muttered under her breath.

i stared at her blankly with thinned eyes. something about this uppermoon was very suspicious, making her stand out from the others. she seemed more self-aware.

ignoring the thought for the time being, i refocused back on what i was going to say to Chi. the girl seemed to take notice and smirked at me in a devious manner. seriously, that obnoxious smile again.

"we're here." i looked up upon her announcement, completely unaware that i had been overly focused on how to articulate my thoughts that i had entirely dropped my guard.

we were surrounded by green ginkgo trees, the second layer of forest that were meant to hide the quarters, but obviously failed judging by where i am now; in front of two temporarily passive highermoons.

we stood in front of a slightly taller ginkgo tree that was somehow yellow. under it, looking up in mesmerisation was a familiar, short figure also holding a paper umbrella. Shi noticed my confusion and explained that she had used her blood demon art to distract Chi in case his memory issues kicked in and he wandered off, resulting in him getting lost. he was attracted by the yellow leaves of ginkgo trees so she figured she distract him with the tree.

"Chi-san, i'm back," she said to him as she slowly walked towards him. "i'll leave you two alone now."

Chi looked at me in confusion. Shi probably set him up and didn't expect to see me here...

i watched as his eyes started to form a glossy texture. uh oh is he crying? shit did i do something?!

out of the blue, he darted towards me and engulfed me in an embrace. his momentum created a strong impact and sent me falling backwards, him on top of me.

he buried his face into my violet, fabric vest, dampening it with his tears which i honestly didn't mind all that much. but i did feel bad for making him cry.

face flushed, i placed my hand onto his back, an awkward gesture of comfort. my mind struggled to process what was happening, so we just laid there in a strange, yet comfortable position. (i have the feeling 'position' is gonna be taken out of context)

after a few minutes passed, i opened my mouth to speak at last, only to realise he had fallen asleep. i breathed out a heavy breath and slowly picked him up, settling him down against the stiff bark of the tree under the even shadier area in case the sun touched him later. i sat down next to him and stared off into space as his head slowly slid towards me, resting peacefully on my shoulder.

maybe i'll talk to him later, but right now i just want to enjoy the moment.

a side of me was shouting in opposition, that this was wrong and i very well knew this was against corps rules. but the other simply could not help but feel a wave of comfort and trust when i'm around him.

soon enough, i joined him in dozing off to sleep, a smile unknowingly plastered on my face.
