you, dear

74 11 1

as you stood, with your brown hair
blowing around your sharp
nose
and your piercing eyes locked onto
mine
and your sardonic grin glued
in place
and your feet planted in the
cold ground

i couldn't see you.

i saw your faults. your
anger.
your controlling personality. your
possessiveness.
your neediness. your perpetual
frown that never left.
your sense of humor, always mocking, never thinking. your
impoliteness.

and all i could think was, what an
unfulfilled life
yours must be.

you, dear, are more alone than
i.

i, at least,
can go wherever i wish, but you
are firmly stuck in
place.

you clutch on to the past
leave nothing for the future.

you, dear,
are pathetic.
