your optimism for us
is suffocating,
wrapping around my windpipe
i
can't
breathe.
we were broken when we met,
and i healed you,
adjusted your crooked
frown.
but you wouldn't let go
when i did
you held firmly on,
and i can't shake you
for the life of me.
i
can't
breathe.
the tendrils of your
sickly sweet hope
have wrapped around my neck,
filling my nose with the
smell
of lilacs
and perfume
and my own bile
as i vomit up your
smiles
you forced down my throat,
eternally hopeful
i would keep them
down
i
can't
breathe.
