Set during Eclipse Lake.

This is probably going to feel rushed and I will definitely say it's not the greatest thing I've ever written, but I couldn't stop thinking about this, so I wrote it anyways.
Don't you just love it when characters never tell you their name so you have to vaguely describe them every time you want to clarify who you're talking about?

(Y/N) had lost track of the days since they had been brought to prison. They were in a relatively empty section of the place, probably because the Golden Guard had shoved them into a random cell not caring where it was, and the guards usually had to make special trips just to visit them. These were usually filled with gossip and discussions of possible covens (Y/N) could join. Honestly, it surprised them how much drama there was between the guards.

So much drama...

They were busy drawing random fire glyphs on the floor when they heard footsteps approaching them. Lighting one of them, they look up to see the very boy who caused them to be there. "Oh! Hi Golden Boy!" They greet cheerfully.

"It's Golden Guard." He answered causally, he didn't have his staff with him, so that caught their attention.

"So, what do you want? Here to force me into a coven? Have me improvise a fire performance for you?" They shoot him a smug smile.

"None of those actually. I want you to accompany me on a mission to the Knee to retrieve something for the Emperor." He straightens up.

They look out the window and see a little red bird sitting on their windowsill.
"So you need me to act as a distraction!" They nod in understanding.

"I never said that!" He shouts at them. "But since you're the most cooperative prisoner in here and I'm certain you wouldn't cause problems I want you to— Hey!" He angrily waves his hands around as the little bird flies over and gently pulls his hood off.

His mask went over his head and covered his hair.

"See, I think your little palisman agrees with me. Personally I trust the little birdy more than I trust your word. But I'm willing to help." Their smugness increased and the smile that made him blush (not that (Y/N) knew that) returned. They did, however, notice that the tips of his ears went red.

"Really?"

"As long as I am safely returned to prison afterwards!" They declare.

"You'd LIKE to stay in prison?" He asks, finding it difficult to put his hood back on with a bird on his head.

They laugh as the bird crouches down to let the hood go over it as well.
"Yep! Free food, no charges of property damage, and friendship! This is probably the greatest place I've ever lived in!" They say proudly. Then their smile vanishes, "Which is really sad if you think about it..." They frown in thought.

The bird wiggles out from the fabric and flies onto their head.

"Oh hello there! Did I accidentally set your house on fire once? I'm sorry if I did..." They smile up at the bird. "You seem like a perfect fit for this stubborn guy."

"Well if you're willing to cooperate I'll be back soon." The Golden Guard adjusts his hood and hurries off.

The bird hops onto their shoulder as (Y/N) stares after him. "What a silly boy... Don't you agree?"

The palisman chirps in response.

"I did set your tree home on fire, didn't I...?"

The silence and lack of recognition from the palisman makes them frown.

"I said I'm sorry!"

"This is a horrible plan." They stare at the cloak they had just put on.
