So I started this a long time ago, and then I just stopped... and then went back revised it, then checked the prompt and realized I had deviated quite a bit and said 'close enough'. So if you want me to write a second version of this that actually follows the prompt, but knowing me will likely be posted in December, I'm happy to do that.

(This is 4,000 words btw)

(C/F) Cookie dries the tears streaming down their face for what feels like the hundredth time. Why did this have to happen again? Was it something with them?

Rubble from broken coral and glass litters the cracked street around them. The twisted, crumbling frames of buildings creak as their weight brings them toppling inward. Yet another city laid to waste by a catastrophic accident. They had just begun to feel like the place was home too. Now there's nothing left of it.

Was it their fault?

Several months after the accident, (C/F) Cookie found themself living alone down near the bottom of the sea. The darkness was a nice change from the brilliant light from the sea above. For someone like them, who had been driven from place to place by catastrophe, the debris that coated the sand was all that was needed.

They had made their home out of a sunken ship and decorated it with various fragments of sugar crystals they found. It captured the faint light left in these deep waters, so the shards felt like a ray of hope amid their despair.

It was quiet, and there was no one else to be hurt by their terrible luck, no more places to grow attached to and abandon when that luck destroyed them.

Or so they thought.

Spotting the bright lights in the horizon, (C/F) Cookie retreated to their ship. All they had to do was wait until whatever it was passed by and then they would go back to exploring at their leisure.

Unfortunately for them, it did not simply pass by and instead came straight for their makeshift home, scouring through the trash that was piled all around. Finally the monster pierced through the old wood and clasped around them.

"AAAH!" They scream and uselessly flail their tail and arms against the powerful metal claw that had grabbed them. It's not letting go! Is it going to crush their dough and eat it? On second thought maybe they aren't ready to die alone!

Suddenly there's a bright flash of light and a pair of hands pull them out of the claw's hold.

"Hey there! Sorry about that. The hermit crab didn't see you." A Cookie with incredibly spiky hair shoots them a toothy smile while holding them safely under his arm. "Are you alright?"

"Y-yes!" (C/F) Cookie jolts at the sudden question, but quickly nods and tries to hide their fright of just being addressed by another Cookie, "Yes, I'm fine now. Thank you."

"Oh, it's nothing. Bahaha." He laughs, then jut his head towards the bright lights of the city, "Even if Abyss Monarch Cookie hadn't spotted you then I'm sure the hermit crab would've let you go as soon as it realized it had caught you like that.

"Well, thank you anyways..." Feeling incredibly awkward, (C/F) Cookie swishes their tail, "You can put me down now..."

"Right, ok." He helps the back up and digs his hands into his pockets. While they find their balance he glances towards the city and grins, "Hey Abyss Monarch Cookie! There's nothing to worry about. They're ok."

That is a terrifying name. Who is this Cookie and why is he on such casual terms with them?

Turning their head, (C/F) Cookie accidentally meets the dark, green eyes staring down at them. A nervous squeak slips out of them as they feel too afraid to look away.
