I suck at writing children lol

White Lily Cookie should have been prepared for this possibility. How, in the YEARS of research she had done to accomplish this, had this potential outcome never occurred to her?

Well, regardless, it didn't change the fact that there was now a freshly baked Cookie crying in her arms.

"Please stop crying..." she awkwardly tries to calm them. She doesn't blame them for being in tears, she's on the verge of them herself. Parenthood was not what she prepared herself for this morning. Holding them close she mutters, "What do I do?"

Experiment successful: she's made a Cookie. Now what?

She had thought Pure Vanilla Cookie was right. Cookies can't bake other Cookies. Never in her life did she think all those years of trying would pay off, and most certainly not like this. And of course it had to happen in the middle of nowhere in some random cave, when she had only attempted it to see if she could still recall all the research she had done.

The poor Cookie continues to wail as she fails to soothe them. Their little arms flail as their screaming reaches a new volume-obviously a sign she's done something wrong.

"I'm sorry..." she apologizes to the little Cookie as she readjusts her hold on them. Unfortunately, White Lily Cookie has never been very good with freshly baked Cookies-that was something the other Soul Jam holders seemed far more adept at-and her lack of experience feels like a painful oversight when she had actually been trying to do something like this since she was in school.

Just as she starts to actually cry, an unexpected voice from the mouth of the cave calls out, "Hi there!" A very fluffy little ferret runs over a moment later. "Do you need help?"

"I... Yes...!" She admits, offering the crying baby to the ferret.

The ferret immediately hops up onto their hind legs to look at the child's face, "Aww, what a cutie! I bet you're hungry, huh?"

Oh. That actually makes a lot of sense. But what can a Cookie so young eat?

"One second." The ferret bounds back towards the cave exit, "I'll go get you some jellies."

Somehow just knowing she wasn't completely alone helped White Lily Cookie feel a lot better. Drying her eyes, she bundles the little Cookie in her cloak. "I'm sorry I don't have anything more for you..." Bearing a Soul Jam makes it so she often hardly eats on her travels with little consequence, and it's easier to travel light, so she really does have basically nothing.

"I'm back!" The ferret calls before bounding back into the cave. Jelly in mouth, they hop right into her lap and carefully step up to look at the baby's face.

"Can they really eat that?" White Lily Cookie frowns. The jelly is about the size of their head...

"Of course not!" Cream Ferret shakes their head, "They don't have any toothcing yet, so you need to chew it up for them."

"Chew... for them?" Stunned, she watches them nibble off a tiny piece of jelly and give it to the baby.

That finally seems to calm their crying a little. With the ferret's care, eventually they fall asleep.

"There." Cream Ferret smiles up at White Lily Cookie, "They should be ok for now."

"Thank you..." She looks down at the baby, "I really don't know what I would have done without your help..."

"Taking care of freshly-baked Cookies is no easy task." They agree, "Every little one is different, so it's hard to know exactly what they need. But I'm sure you can give them a warm and safe home!"
