So I accidentally started writing this in second person and was too lazy to change it, so it's in second person.
I'd also like to thank whoever wrote all the dialogue on the fandom wiki. Saved me so much time...

How in the desolate waste you had come to caring for the tiny child was completely beyond you. You had just been going on your normal patrol route and picked up that weird nail, only to find that the next moment you are caring for a fire-breathing baby and beating up magic creatures that carry the fire it supposedly eats.

At least whoever this kid's father was seemed nice enough. He marked the locations you needed to go to fetch the flames on your map when you asked him for help when you first started. His demeanor felt like it drastically shifted when you asked him for help too. When acting solely as... what was his title... "Troupe Master" he was rather solemn and serious, but when he somehow marked the map he looked far more relaxed and nonchalant.
Not that he wasn't still taking whatever this weird babysitting thing was seriously, he obviously was, maybe he just didn't feel the need to keep his guards up since you were asking for help on how to do what he asked...

Eh, it doesn't really matter. You have a child to look after—who is caring a lot more for you than you are caring for it. Can't really care for something that never lets your hands close enough to touch it. Even that glosses over the fact that it spits fire now because it's apparently grown a little.

"Nyaa..." The little child whimpers as you look over your map once again.

"Sorry little guy..." You reply, double checking that that was the last of the flames for now. "I must be taking forever to fight these things by your standards. Thanks for helping out." You instinctively reach out to pat the head of the child, only for it to move to your other side.
"...Why do I keep trying that?"

Suddenly the child shoots fire at something behind you and you, not wanting to deal with any more creature after those crazy fire things, start running back to your closest rest point.

Sitting down in your small "house", you let out a sigh. Today has been more exhausting than you anticipated... You haven't given yourself a break all day, running around and feeding the child by fighting all those things.

Much to your surprise the flying child settles down next to you, curling up around itself and ceasing its continual avoidance of your hands, allowing you to finally pet his tiny head.
Suddenly everything else felt worth it because it allowed you to have this moment. This was nice after all the frantic running and fighting.

But alas, you're not done just yet. You had to take the child back to his father once again.
Wait, did he ever say he is the child's father...?
Whatever! You are the parent now! This child is your responsibility! You have to take it home!

...But you'll probably rest for a few hours. Your legs are kind of numb from running around the entire kingdom in one day.

After a wonderful few hours of resting with the child, you make your way back up to the tents you first became a babysitter. That guy with the accordion was still playing, and the melody echoed around the dark hallway.

"Hi." You greet him with a wave, the child trailing behind you.

He considers you and the child with a hum before giving his reply, never ceasing in his playing, "Very good. The child burns with flame."

You glance at the baby flying around your head. That was not a very reassuring thing to say...

"Master... is waiting for you." He hums again as he goes back to his playing.
