< "Even though you may look intact, once you put the pieces back together, you're never the same as you were before the fall." >"Just be cool," I said to myself as I looked in my rear view mirror. I smiled to myself as I fluffed my hair. I looked down at the outfit I chose and mentally patted myself on the back.
I stepped out of my car and pushed my hair away from my face as I locked it.
I pushed the restaurant door open and the bell above it rung as I walked in. My heeled boots clicked against the tiles as I approached the front counter.
"Hi, welcome to Russo's Pizzeria. What can I get you?" The cheerful redhead stood behind the counter with a bright smile on her face and you could tell it was genuine, so I couldn't help but smile back.
"Hi, I'm looking for Giovanni." I said in a calm voice but every part of me was shaking. I've been avoiding speaking to him for ages and now I'm the one pushing to see him.
I'm so sick of running away. I'm sick of having to watch over my shoulder every time I leave my house. Besides, I'm getting an internship and I'm getting out of here. There's nothing he could say to me that could hurt me now.
I've survived a relationship full of hurtful words.
"Sure, he's on break but he should be in the back, so you could just go through," She said as she gestured to the staff door.
"A-Are you sure?" I asked and she nodded with a smile. "Yeah, of course. You're Riley right?" She asked and I nodded and she gestured to the door, "Go ahead."
"Thanks-" I responded as the staff door opened. I turned to look and I stopped as I stared at her.
I could tell by her eyes that she recognised me immediately. I tried to stomach the bubbling rage that was quickly filling inside me.
Amelia.
"Riley. Hey, it's been a while-"
My face hardened as my eyes shamelessly scanned her from head to toe. "Where's Gio?" I asked but didn't even give her an opportunity to answer as I quickly moved past her and into the kitchen area.
"Hey, you can't be in here-"
"Shut the hell up." I warned as I pointed to the guy and he silenced as I marched through the kitchen.
I've known Amelia for a while now. She's managed to involve herself in my relationship with Gio for a very long time. The same girl Avalon saw him with when she warned me about him.
The perky blonde.
"Hey! He's busy right now!" I heard her yell as she chased me but I didn't stop until I found him.
He spotted me immediately and cursed as I approached him. "What is she doing here?" I hissed and she approached us and tried to join our conversation.
Gio gave her a warning look to stay back and she ignored him just as I spun around to face her.
"No. Get out of my face, or go somewhere else." I warned as I stared her down and pointed my finger in her face but she didn't seem fazed.
