The man in the rain

Who is this him?

As Steve and Nat were being pushed out of the diner, they both exchanged a look of confusion. Vieve mentioned: "him" who was this him, and what did she mean by those two taking him. 

"What did she mean by him," Nat asked Steve hoping he would have the answer to her question, but he did not. He actually had no clue who Vieve was talking about but he had a small idea as to how they could find out.

"Nat, hear me out on this one, but we should find out who she meant. The only person who might have the answers is that man who pushed us out" Steve suggested knowing that his idea was crazy. 

"Yeah, that is a crazy idea since we really need to follow this lead because it won't last forever. However, I agree. Just ask if he doesn't give you the answer then we have got to go. No prying."

"Deal," he said heading back into the diner. And as soon as he did he saw the same man that kicked him and Nat out of the diner storming towards them. Steve was ready, however, he was also terrified because he saw how much Genevieve meant to him.  

"What do you think you're doing walking back into this establishment after I just kicked you out of here?"

"I know, I know but I just need to know the him that she was referring to. I feel like if I took him from her I should know who it is so I can apologize for it sincerely" Steve said rubbing his head to show how genuine he was to apologize to Vieve. Derek however was considering not telling him because he thought if he didn't know who it was then, he shouldn't know who it is now. But he was also considering telling him so that way Vieve can finally get some closure and move on with her life and her degree. Derek had come to a decision that would please Steve and hopefully shine for Vieve. 

"Fine, I will tell you. But once I do you have to promise to not come back to this restaurant. This is her safe space and you guys being here does not make her feel safe. You also need to apologize to her and not here or at her place. Take her to him to apologize" Derek said while walking the pair to a booth so he could tell them who they wanted to know. Steve and Nat blankly followed and sat across from him like kids would when their elders told them stories.

"When Loki attacked New York, there was an office building that you guys had destroyed by having the aliens that were attacking crash into that building. But that office wasn't fully evacuated before it hit. Vieve's brother was in that building. Not only was her brother in there his new wife was with him. They were there to sign a new lease on an apartment that was close to Vieve's. They wanted to be close because after their parents died those two were the only family each other had left. However, when Tony hit the building he hit the floor below the couple causing them to be buried by the rubble of the collapsed building. So, now you know who she was talking about, Her only family left." The air between the three was so thick and heavy with sorrow, guilt, and remorse and Derek could have sworn he saw Steve wipe a tear from his face, but he decided not to say anything. Steve and Nat exchanged a look at one another and they knew exactly where to take Vieve when she was ready to talk to them. 

"Thank you, sir. I really appreciate the fact that you told us, I know that had to have been hard for you. When Vieve is ready we as a team will come and all apologize to her, but for now, we have some important things to get going after. Once again thank you for telling us and please let us know if there is anything we can do for her in the meantime" Rogers said shaking the man's hand and then leaving with Nat. 

They both went to get into the car that Nat had brought. They got into the car and Steve told her the directions to the house of the person they were going to go ask if they would help follow the lead that Nat had acquired. On the drive, Steve couldn't stop thinking about what the diner owner had told him about Vieve's family. Was Tony the one to really kill them? How long had they been married before they fell to their deaths? Where was Vieve when this all was happening? Her only family left? Where were her parents? He had so many questions that he wanted to ask her but he knew that he couldn't at least not yet. He needed to wait until he had the chance to say sorry for what the team did. It didn't feel like the right moment to immediately go and apologize because when Derek was telling them he looked like he had a face of regret when sharing the story so Steve assumed that he wasn't supposed to know what he did.

"Steve," Nat said sternly while giving his arm a little tap to get his attention back. She could tell that he was lost in thought and she knew what he was thinking. A guy like Steve doesn't process the information that he just gained very well. He wasn't the kind of guy to take things like this lightly and Nat could see the instant guilt that he felt start to eat him alive. She wanted to be able to distract him but getting inside of his head was going to be a lot harder than it sounded. "We are almost to the location. Are you sure they can help us?"

"Yeah. I trust them with a lot" he said still keeping his mind on the fact that there were so many innocent lives that the team has taken. He knew that there were going to be casualties, but he didn't realize the impact it would have on so many people's lives. He turned to look out the window and try to steer his thoughts away from the thoughts and turn it back to the task at hand. "This lead. What is it that you have? What do we need to prepare ourselves for?" he asked. The questions shocked Nat because she was fully expecting him to ask her how she felt with that information they both just gained. 

"We will need to travel and travel fast. This lead will not last us very long. He moves quickly. So as soon as we get the extra help we will need to get the Quinjet and head off" she said pulling into the driveway of the house. They both got out of the car and headed to the front door. Steve took a deep breath and let it out with a sigh as he knocked on the door. 

"Hey man, we could really use your help. You in?"

 Hi guys I am so so sorry. I know that I promised you guys two chapters for the other day, but I just got some really upsetting news with my family so I needed some time to process all of that. But I am back and will be back to posting on a regular schedule (hopefully). But let me know what you guys think so far and don't forget to vote and comment.
