"Do you know me?" Steve asked the man.
"You're Steve. I read about you in a museum. Why are you here?" The man asked him.
"Buck, we are here to take you home with us. We know that things have been tough for you for the past 70 years and we just all want to make you feel comfortable and not have to feel like you're going to spend the rest of your life hiding" Steve said while slowly walking towards his best friend who felt like a stranger to him. He had thought he lost him when he fell off that train back in 45 but when he saw him last year when Bucky was trying to kill him he had so many thoughts about how Bucky was still alive.
"I can't go back, Steve. Do you know how much blood I have on my hands? They would never be able to able to forgive me from my past. I didn't even want to do those things but I did." Bucky said looking at the ground knowing that he would never be able to not only clear his name but also the nightmares that he has been suffering from since he got his own mind back.
"Buck, you and I both know that it wasn't you who did all of that, and I know we can convince everyone back in New York of that too. Trust me, Buck, we can fix this" Steve said reaching his hand out to meet Bucky's. Buck hesitated but when he looked at Steve he knew that what Steve was saying was true, he knew he could trust Steve. Bucky reached out and shook Steve's hand signifying that he agreed to go back to New York with steve. Steve sighed with relief knowing that he could actually have his best friend back after so many years of not knowing if he was alive or not. Bucky started to pack a few things that he had acquired since being free, the notebook that steve was looking through included. He didn't have much so it didn't take him long and when he was ready Steve was waiting for him next to the door. Bucky let steve walk out first and he looked back at the place that was home to him and he realized that he was terrified to leave.
While walking down the stairs Bucky's mind was racing with all the thoughts of what could go wrong. He was still hiding from HYDRA and he was also hiding from the U.S. government so him going out in the open like this with Steve was causing him extreme anxiety. However, he hid his nerves and worry from Steve because he could tell that Steve was excited to have his friend back, but how was he supposed to tell Steve that he would never be the same Bucky ever again. Sure he would gain parts of him back but the full Bucky from the 1940s would never be back. They both continued to walk towards the entrance of the building and they were met with Nat and Sam waiting next to the car that they came in. Nat gave Buck a smile and Same gave him a little nod, but they were both still scared that he was going to turn back into the Winter Soldier at any given time.

Vieve woke up and thought she was in her own apartment but when she opened her eyes she met a surprise. She was at Jo's place. The memories from last night popped into her head and she remembered why she stayed at his place, to forget about how hard her day was. She really couldn't escape what happened she would continuously remember it. She even had a nightmare about it, but in the nightmare, she actually had to watch the Avengers team take turns torturing her brother while she just sat there and watched. So when she went to check the time she wasn't even a bit surprised when she saw that it was 3:23 a.m. She sat up off of the couch where she had fallen asleep, wrapped a blanket around herself, and headed towards the fire escape. She loved sitting on the fire escape at her place because it gave her the chance to look out at the skyline and when she did that she felt that her brother was sitting next to her.
Her brother, Harrison, loved skylines like this, that's one of the reasons he moved to New York. He would always talk about how little everything looked when he would look down from some of the tallest buildings and how he felt like that spider kid who was always swinging around Queens. She took a deep breath of the frigid air and sighed it back out, and as her breathe escaped a single tear also streamed down and off of her cheek and fell towards the ground.
She sat outside until the sun came up and when it blazed her eyes she decided to head back inside. She ducked through the window making her way back towards the kitchen pulling out a mug and filling it with tap water and throwing it into the microwave. She didn't want to be too loud with getting the kettle out and having it squeal super loud causing Joseph to wake up. So when the microwave was about to go off she opened the door to make sure the blaring alarm didn't make its way through the apartment. She grabbed a teabag from the cupboard and put it into the steaming water. She then went and sat back down on the couch to scroll through her phone until Jo woke up.
It was about 9:30 when she started to hear Jo waking up. She hurried to put her cup away and then act as if she had actually slept through the entire night. Yes, Jo is her best friend but she hasn't told him about the nightmares she's been having ever since her brother's passing. She got under the blanket and laid down just in time for Jo to be thinking that she also just woke up.
"Why I chose to sleep on the couch when I have a perfectly good bed to sleep on makes me question my sanity" his raspy morning voice took her by surprise.
"Yeah that was really dumb of you," Vieve said trying her best to make her voice sound just as tired as his, but failing. Jo noticed how her voice sounded but didn't question it.
"Yeah, it was. Anyway, I'm too tired to cook did you want to go out to breakfast? I know this really great cafe that's just a few blocks away" Jo said getting up and heading towards his bedroom to go change into some casual clothes.
"Yeah, I'm down to go eat," Vieve responded making her way to the guest room, where she had a pile of extra clothes from past sleepovers, to get changed.
"Okay cool, I think that you'll really like this place."
Once they were both ready they made their way down to the street and started walking to the cafe. They made small talk about what they were doing in classes and how different life has been since their last sleepover, but just like Jo said the walk was short and they reached the cafe sooner than Vieve expected. They walked in placed their orders and waited for them to be prepared.
"Hey I know I promised that we could hang out all day, but I just got called into work," Jo said while looking down at his phone. She could see the remorse in his face, but she understood that they were adults and stuff happened.
"No worries J. Besides I kind of wanted to go to the memorial to talk to Harrison a little bit" she said with a small sad smile on her face.
"You're the best Vieve I owe you on this one," he said giving her a hug, grabbing his coffee, and heading out on his way to work. After he left her order was ready and she got it and hailed a cab to take her to the Attack on New York Memorial. While in the taxi the clouds above her started to darken and it soon started to pour down rain. She sighed at the weather knowing she didn't have an umbrella with her.
The cab soon pulled up to the curb signaling to Genevieve that they had arrived at their destination so, she paid the driver and got out into the pouring rain. She started walking up to the memorial when she noticed that there was already someone there.
