Genevieve walked back up to her apartment with a huge smile on her face. She felt like she had finally come to terms with how her life was going to be now that she has had gotten the closure that she needed to move on from her brother's death. Sure she was still going to be sad about it, she was still going to have moments of sadness and mourning, but at least she wouldn't have to be angry at some people she barely even knew.
She reached her door and slid the key into the lock. She opened the door to find that her windows were finally replaced and there was a letter sitting on her counter. She opened the note to find that Tony had finally repaired the windows and that they were all paid for. That news added to the smile on her face, but the real reason is James. She felt as if he could be her person that she can tell all of her problems and know that he knows what she is going through. She felt like he would know all of the right things to say and know exactly how to help her through her thoughts.
By now she was in her loungewear getting ready to actually do some homework for the first time in what felt like forever. She opened her computer and started up her program while simultaneously putting some music on in the background. She slumped into the couch and she started on her homework. Hours went by and by the end of her assignment, she was asleep on her couch.
James pov
He watched her go into her building and felt like a part of himself left. He never thought that he could feel like this but here he was walking down the street wondering if she could possibly feel the same in the short amount of time that they had spent together. He didn't know that coming back to the states would bring so many people into his life, let alone people who could end up changing his life for the better. Sure, Steve and the rest of the team could have helped him, but not in a way that she was going to. She was his new saving grace, but he wondered what it would be like if she was around for an even worse flashback episode. Would she be willing to help him or would she be scared to ever return to him? This was the one and only question that was on his mind when he was walking back to the tower.
When he made his arrival at the tower he was met with stares from everyone. He didn't like that. He wasn't the type to like all of the attention on him anymore. Being with H.Y.D.R.A. had changed him for the worse. He was no longer his confident self, he was a self-conscious mess. Everyone's eyes were still on him so he gave a little smile to the group and headed back to where his room would be, but little did he know that Steve and Nat had followed him. When he approached his door he felt the presence of the two and turned to meet them.
"What do you two want?" he asked trying to be polite but not really wanting to talk about what he had spent his evening doing.
"Oh, we were both just wondering where you have been for the last 6 hours?" Nat said, her words laced with a smirk on her face. James was not amused, He looked at Steve and gave him a short glare, and decided to not give them the enjoyment of him actually enjoying his time out with G.
"I just needed to take a walk and get some fresh air," he said walking into his room and locking the door behind him. After he went into his room, Steve and Nat both shared a knowing look and decided to leave the man alone. James sat on the edge of his bed looking, face in his palms and elbows on his knees. He knew that Steve had told everyone so that they didn't question where he was at in the time that he was gone, but he wished that he didn't. His mind raced of G and their day together. He was truly happy when he recalled those memories, and he wanted to continue to feel that happiness, but he didn't know the next time that he would see her. That thought had single-handedly brought his mood down and all he wanted to do was hide from the world, but he wouldn't let himself get this way after just one single meeting with this girl. He told himself that he was acting crazy and that he doesn't even know her. So, what he did to get his mind away from her was head to the training gym and work her out of his brain, at least for the night.
Genevieve's POV
An alarm blaring had woken Vieve up. She was still curled up on the couch, blankets, and pillows missing. She felt around for her phone so she could shut off the alarm, but she couldn't find it. She sat up still groggy with sleep still on her mind. She swung her feet off the couch and onto the ground, feet hitting the cold floor, waking her up even more than the alarm already had. She walked towards her room hoping that her phone was in there because the consistent blare of the alarm was starting to drive her a little bit mad. She eventually found her phone, it plugged into the charger in her room. She turned off the sounds and made her way to the bathroom to get ready for the long day ahead of her. However, she knew that there could be someone stopping by the diner later today that put a huge smile onto her face.
She didn't want to let anyone know how she really felt about James, because people would call her crazy about how she felt. She felt like she could tell him anything and that he wouldn't ever judge her. She knew that their connection was something special. He made her feel heard and comfortable. No person other than Harrison had made her feel like that. And the fact that they had met at the place where she knew that Harrison was with her made her feel so much more confident that James was supposed to come into her life.
She showered put on just some light make-up and put on a little blue floral dress with tights and her Doc Martens. She finished getting ready and started heading out the door with her backpack and headphones ready to walk to campus. She was actually looking forward to class today because they were working on designing a place that they feel safe and happy in. She knew exactly what she was going to be crating and the exact colors and materials she wanted to use. She locked the door and headed downstairs to officially start her day.
After her classes, she made her way to the diner and was immediately greeted by Charlene with a big smile and a million questions about last night. But just as she was about to start spilling the details the bell chimed and a loving smile appeared on not only Vieve's face but also Mrs. Gilbertson's.
