While Steve was preparing meetings to clear Bucky's name, it wasn't hard for Bucky's mind to start playing tricks on him. He sat in his room where Steve had left him and let his mind take control for just a moment. He did this every once in a while to make sure that he was still able to regain control. He knew his limits and didn't ever push them. So, when he let his mind take over this time, he wasn't expecting it to fully take over. He started to breathe heavily and fast while his body reacted by instantly getting hot and making him sweat. His face could show the fight going on in his head. His eyes showed how much he was actually hurting and how hard he was trying to escape, while his mouth and facial expressions showed nothing but blankness. No emotion was able to be detected in the lower half of his face, just like when he was the Winter Soldier. He sat on his bed, the room silent while fighting himself to gain back control. There was a split moment where the Winter Soldier mind faltered and Bucky's mind was able to take back its own space.

He stood from the bed and went to the bathroom that was attached to his room It was nothing too fancy just enough for a sink, a toilet, and a shower. Everything had this modern feel to it and he was able to tell that the quality of all the materials was top tier. He went to the sink and turned the cold water on, dunking his hand into it and then bringing the chilled liquid to his face. He did this about four times to finally calm himself down enough to look at himself in the mirror. What he saw was not what he was expecting. His facial hair had grown out and needed to be shaved, while his eyes and the bags under them look as if they have been there his whole life. His hair was a greasy tangled mess and he could see how much it needed to be washed. He looked towards the shower to see if there was any soap or something of the sort in there, and there was. His next thought was a towel. He searched around the bathroom and couldn't find anything so he went to the closet he had in his room. He found that in the closet there were already some clothes that were ready for him to wear as well as a whole pile of white towels. He picked out a maroon long sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans and went back to the bathroom to clean himself up.

After his shower and he got all changed, and decided that he was going to walk around the tower to get a feel of where he would be staying for who knows how long. He opened his room door and peered out into the hallway to make sure that not a soul saw him. Once he saw that the coast was clear he swiftly opened the door, threw his body out, and made his way to the elevator. He pressed the button to summon the elevator to his floor. He waited and got in and then stopped dead in his tracks. He looked at all the buttons on the side panel and was immediately overwhelmed. He just decided to press a random one and he felt the elevator begin to move. When the doors opened up he was met with a whole training gym as well as a physical therapy space that he assumed was for the team's use. He wanted to scope out what equipment the team had so that way he could keep his physical shape. He knew that coming here he wasn't just going to be Steve's friend, they were going to need him and he wanted to be able to have his physical abilities as well as the serum coasting through his blood. He was thoroughly impressed with all the machines that the gym had as well as sparing mats and he could tell that he would be spending a lot of time on this floor.

He made his way back to the elevator and went to go and look at different floors of the building. The elevator approached the floor he was on and he entered the space. He glanced at all the buttons and again just pushed a random one hoping it would take him to where ever Steve was. He didn't want to be alone anymore. When the elevator stopped he found that he had reached the common room for the team and when the doors opened to reveal him the team just looked at him. He didn't like all the stares he was getting and he started to panic. The looks coming from the other team members made him feel inadequate and he didn't like that feeling. He quickly pressed the button to close the doors and then pressed the button that he knew he could trust. After doing so the elevator took off and he could feel the tension leave his shoulders. He thought that the team knew he was coming but the look of anxiety and fear on their faces proved him wrong. The doors to the lift opened and revealed the first floor and when they did Bucky made a break for the door. He didn't want to be in the tower any longer. At least the people on the outside didn't know who he was and what he is capable of.

He shoved his hands in his pockets and started walking down the streets of New York. He was looking around and just sightseeing, but the tall towers of buildings made him very apprehensive. He wanted to get away from them so he started heading in the direction of a clearing. As he was making his way to the clearing he looked to his left side and saw a courtyard. This courtyard tho was different than any other courtyard that he has seen before. There was a brick wall surrounding what looked to be a fountain and the opening gate was made out of black iron bars. Inside of the courtyard and surrounding the fountain were super tall pillars, but they were not holding anything up. This place sparked an interest in him and he started to walk over there. When he reached the place he looked up to see what was called The Attack on New York Memorial: Honoring those who lost their lives in the battle it read. He had heard about the attack from the newspaper, but he didn't realize how many lives were actually lost in the terrible attack.

He walked towards the first one and noticed how many names were actually on the one side of the pillar. The pillar was made of polished red granite and each name looked like it was hand-carved into the stone. He was too lost in how many names he was reading to realize that a cab had shown up right outside of the gate letting a person out. The closing of the cab door however brought him away from his thoughts because he thought it was Steve coming to get him to take him back to the tower. But when he turned around he was met with a beautiful pair of hazel eyes that looked as if they had been crying for a while.
