"Genevieve? Are you okay?" Bucky said rushing to her side to try and comfort her. He knew that what tony had said about her had been spoken about. He knew that he was going to have to tell her sooner or later, he was just hoping it would be later and not by another member of the team but rather by himself.
"Did you know?" she barely whispered to him. She didn't want to know the answer because she knew it was going to hurt her, but hearing it from him would hurt even more. She truly cared for him and for James to bring her here where Tony had said such awful things about her was out of line.
James was taken back by the question, of course, he knew. Tony mentioned it as soon as Bucky got to the tower reminding him that "not everyone in New York is the same as they were in your time, take that one chick we met the other day for example" is what Tony said to him as soon as the jet landed back at the tower after bringing him home.
"Yes, I knew" his voice was low and he lowered his eyes to meet hers. He was met with pain and tear-soaked hazel eyes. She looked up at him and let one of the tears she was trying so hard to hold back escape and roll down her cheek.
Tony was standing behind James watching the whole ordeal happen right in front of him and the smile on his face was small but it was still present. Vieve caught a look at him and couldn't control herself any longer. She let the tears fall and let out a small sob only loud enough for her and Bucky to hear. Bucky tried to reach for her hand to comfort her in any way but she snatched it back. Tony stepped out of the lift and as soon as he did Vieve stepped in. She wanted to leave and never see any of them again. As the doors were closing a metal had popped in just to stop it. The doors opened to reveal a guilt-ridden James and he stepped in and let the doors close.
That elevator ride was silent. All the way from the top of the building to the ground floor the only thing that could be heard between the two was the reoccurring sniffle from Vieve. The doors opened and Vieve tried to make a break for the exit but she was stopped by her arm being held by James.
"Vieve, can we please just talk?" James begged tears starting to form in his eyes because his intentions were never to hurt her.
"Why would I want to talk to you? You knew what Tony was saying about me and you knew that he was telling everyone in that tower about the 'bitch who deserves nothing' and you introduced me to them with them having the image in their mind of me being so insufferable. You knew how nervous I was to meet them, why didn't you tell me?" she questioned.
The pain that was in her voice was unbearable to listen to. James had one reason and one reason only that he didn't want to tell her.
"Because if I told you, would that not have made you even more nervous? I know you Vieve, you are not what Tony says you are, you could prove that to the rest of them, they saw that. They liked you. Tony doesn't know you and he doesn't know your story so he has no right to talk about you like that" James stated still holding onto her arm. She yanked her arm away and headed for the door. Somehow what he said made her even madder. He stopped her again.
"You're right James, Tony doesn't know me and neither do you it seems. Yeah, I would've been more nervous, but I still had a right to know James. You keep saying that you know me but you don't. We just met only a couple of days ago, you barely know me. I don't know you, I only know of you. And if anyone deserves what comes for them it's you, The Winter Soldier" she shouted and yanked her arm out of his grip again and went out to the street and caught a cab.
Bucky stood there in the middle of the lobby of the Avengers Tower frozen. He knew she was upset and she had the right to be, but he couldn't get the words that she hissed at him out of his head. They were playing on a loop and it started to send him into a spiral. He knew that he couldn't be out in public when he was like this so he stomped his way over to the stairs and took the hike to get to the floor that his room was on.
Nat didn't know that Vieve didn't know what Tony said. She felt awful for bringing it up in more of a snarky manner. She hurt Vieve and she never planned to do that, but the way that Vieve reacted and stormed off she could tell that she messed up. She was eating herself up about it ever since Vieve left. She especially felt bad for James. He was so excited for Vieve to be here and she went and messed it all up for him.
She was broken from her thoughts when she heard the door leading to the stairwell slam open and an angry Bucky storming through it. By the way, he was acting she could tell that things did not go well downstairs. She watched as Bucky made his way from one end of the room to the other in a matter of seconds and she was worried for him. This was Tony's and her fault so she was going to try her best to fix it. She knew that she couldn't ask James where she was or where she was going because he obviously didn't know. So, she made her way to the surveillance room to find out where she went.

Vieve got into the cab she called and as soon as she did her tears couldn't be held back much longer. She let them go. This day was supposed to be good. She was supposed to be with James and he was supposed to make her day better. It was going well up until Tony's name was mentioned. He always found a way to ruin things for her. First her family life and now her social life. To say she hated him will forever be an understatement. She didn't want to be home and she needed a distraction so she told the driver to take her to the diner. She knew that the Gilbertson's wouldn't mind if she clocked in and went to work and that's exactly what she did. She worked all the way until close and made sure the entire diner was spotless before she left. She still didn't want to go home so she went to the only other place of comfort that she knew she could count on.
