"Y/N!"

"What?" you looked up suddenly, a thick British voice snapping you back to reality. "Oh..."

Newt looked away and sighed before fixing his gaze on you once more.

"Y/N," he said again, "You know that I could have gotten Alby involved, but I didn't. The least you could do is pay attention when I'm talking to you."

"You're right," you agreed, "I'm sorry, Newt." It was true, he could have gotten Alby to 'handle' this, but he was doing it himself, which-you knew-would be a whole lot better for you and Gally in the end. "What were you saying?"

"I was reminding you of how many times Gally has had to sleep in the Pit lately?" he raised his voice to a question at the end to see if I remembered what he was talking about. "And how Gally's been falling behind in his work because he keeps getting distracted. By you."

You swallowed.

"And I was also discussing your permanent job. What it will be."

"Oh, please not kitchen duty, Newt! I want to be a Builder!"

Newt raised both eyebrows and folded his arms across his chest. You realized that you weren't helping.

"Oh come on, Newt! Please!?"

He considered for a moment, and you held your breath, hoping, hoping...

"Why not be a Medjack?" he asked finally.

"Can't stand the sight of blood."

"Is that true?"

"I don't know, I can't remember. But it could be true."

From the corners of your eyes you could see a group of boys beginning to gather around you and Newt as you stood there, discussing your fate. This could be good, or this could be bad. Depending on whos side they were on...You decided to take a chance.

"Builder?" you asked again.

"But," said Newt. "You haven't been in the kitchen for too long." Newt looked at Frypan, as if for support, "Maybe as time went on you could..."

"NO!" You turned at Frypan's shout and had to bit your lip to keep from laughing at his horrified expression. "She is not ever setting a foot into my kitchen again!" he raved indignantly. "Over my dead body!'

"But..." started Newt, but you could tell that he was beginning to waiver a little.

"Newt, man, just let her be a freaking Builder!" one of the boys in the ring that had gathered around Newt and yourself shouted.

"She'll poison us all if she stays in the kitchen!" called another.

You couldn't help but smile. The Gladers were actually sticking up for you! That was a first. Although, by now you probably guessed that they were just so sick of this "builder issue" going on, that they would have given you the moon, if you'd asked for it.

"Just let her, Newt!"

"Yeah, seriously!"

A chorus of boy's voices rose around us, and you saw Newt relent a little with each new voice.

"Oh, come on, Newt! Let me be a Builder! Trial run?" you begged, sticking out your bottom lip and batting your eyelashes.

Newt sighed, trying to maintain his serious expression, but slowly his lips spread into an uncontrollable grin and gave out an annoyed but defeated groan. "Fine." He said.

You shrieked with joy!

"Trial run, only!" he added, but you scarcely heard him.

"Thank you, Newt!" you bubbled, could have kissed him but you didn't dare risk Gally's wrath, so you just smiled with a grin so wide you could have burst. Gally! You were finally going to get to build alongside Gally! Eeeek!

"Now, you have to work as a Builder," said Newt seriously. "No goofing off or messing around, got it?"

You nodded enthusiastically, still unable to control your large, childish smile, and underneath all of his second-in-command-authority, you could tell that Newt was happy for you as well.

As soon as you could get away from all of the congratulating Gladers, you ran off to find Gally. You found him inspecting a sloppily-made wooden crate in such a way that its Builder stood nervously to one side, quickly shifting weight from one foot to the other.

"Gally!" You ran up behind him and flung your arms around his neck.

"Y/N!" he said, happily, dropping the wooden nailed mess of a crate, trying to turn around to hug you, but you weren't letting go. "Hey, Babe, how are you?"

"Guess what, Gal?" you asked.

He turned this way and that, in an attempt to strip you from his back, but finally just stood still and asked, "Alright, what?"

"Guess what's on your back?"

"Um...you?" he said hesitantly as if it were a trick question.

You laughed. He was so cute!

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Y/N," you paused for effect before blurting out, "your new Builder!"

Gally whipped around so fast that you suddenly found yourself facing him, your arms still around his neck. His larg, perfect hands grasped your waist and pulled you into him as he pressed his lips against yours.

"Yes!" he said triumphantly.

"So, you're happy?" you asked, wanting to hear him say it.

"Of course I'm happy!" he gushed, then added with a soft smile and raised eyebrow, "Now I can keep an eye on you."

You quivered slightly at the weight of his firm grip around your waist, and you leaned it him, burying your face in his neck. "I love you, Gally."

"Right back at you." he kissed your head and squeezed you tighter. "My little Builder."
