"You," he paused. "You're letting Dan go?"

Gally looked from Newt to Alby then back to Newt, folding his arms across his chest threateningly.  There was complete silence as Gally's comment hung in the air. Newt gazed at something that wasn't there, and Alby maintained his alpha expression.

"He could have killed her!" Hoarse thought it was from the strain of the fever, Gally's voice began to rise to a dangerous level. "He has hurt her physically, and mentally, and in the Maze, he could have killed her! If that's not breaking the rules, I don't know what is!"

You sat on the edge of the bed next to Gally in the Medjack hut, holding his hand. His skin was warm, but the harshness of the fever had—to your great relief—left that night. The Gladers had been glad of Gally's somewhat miraculous recovery, and you couldn't help but notice Jeff's rather surprised look when he'd seen that Gally had made it through the night.

Now, however, even though Gally was still extremely weak, Gally had demanded that a decision be made about Dan, and what was to be done with him. So you, Gally, Alby and Newt were alone in the Medjack hut, trying to work things out. Trying being the key word.

"Dan did break the rules, there's no denying that," Alby answered. "However, we let her stay. None of this would have happened if we hadn't let her stay. We all knew that there would be trouble letting a girl live in the Glade, this is just a part of it."

"So you're saying it's her fault?!" Demanded Gally, eyebrows raised dangerously.

You tightened your grip on his hand, trying to calm him. You didn't want his body to undergo more stress than necessary. He had been through enough already.

"Not all of it, but you have to realize that she is a girl, Gally, a girl! And boys, whether you like it or not, are physically attracted to them. So, naturally, her being here, especially because she is the only girl, is going to bring out some aggressive behavior."

"He could have killed her! Do you not understand that?! Killed her!" Gally yelled, chest heaving.

"Gally—" you started, but he interrupted.

"Newt!" he said, turning to the second in command for support.

"I agree with Alby," he answered slowly in his thick, British accent.

Gally opened his mouth, but Alby continued before he could say anything.

"We can't send him into the Maze," said Alby firmly. "I can't. He's not stung; it just wouldn't be right. However," he continued at Gally's protest, "something must be done. Dan has broken way too many rules and caused way too much trouble."

"Then what are you going to do with him!?" Gally demanded.

Alby stared at Gally for a long time. "I don't know," he said finally.

"You don't know," said Gally.

Newt wetted his lips and looked down.

"You don't know?!"

"Gally, calm down," said Newt softly in his thick, British accent, eyes looking up at Gally.

"Calm down!? Oh, I'll calm down, Newt! I'll calm down when I see Dan's dead body in the Maze! I'll calm down when I can sleep at night not having to worry about my girl's safety! I'll calm down when there is justice for what has been done here! If you want me to calm down, that's when I'll calm down, but NOT BEFORE! And if you're not going to do anything to that Slinthead, I WILL!"

Suddenly he burst into a fit of coughing, and you quickly put your hands on his heaving shoulders for support. He shook his head and held up a hand, signaling that he was fine, but you kept a firm grip on his shoulders, unable to let go.
