You grimaced as dirty, soapy water sloshed out of the pot you were scrubbing and splattered across your face. Wiping your sleeve across your cheeks and forehead, your mind drifted to the Builders. To Gally. What was he up to? Oh, how you wished that you were a Builder and not stuck here in the kitchen scrubbing cookware! It wasn't an official job, not yet, anyway, and you were sure glad of that! You threw out the dirty water and set the pot up sideways, leaning against others that you had previously cleaned, and were just standing up to start work on another one, when a bright patch of sunlight streamed across the ground, framing a boy's shadow. You glanced up at the open door, only to drop the pan (with a resounding CLANG) and fling your arms around his neck.
"Hey, Hon," said Gally, a bit surprised at your enthusiastic greeting, but greatly pleased nonetheless, "How is your day going?"
"Hey!" came your bubbly reply at seeing him, then remembered the drudging task that you had been assigned and said, "Oh, Gally! These pots are horrific! I so wish I could be a builder...like you," you batted your eyes playfully, and Gally, smiling, pulled you closer to him, touching his nose to yours. You loved it when he did that!
"What are you doing in here?" you asked, suddenly wondering, "Lunch isn't for another hour or so."
"I came to find you, why else?" he replied in his deep, soothing voice.
"What will Alby say?" you asked, not caring all that much, but not wanting Gally to get in trouble because of you. Again. The rain pool episode resulted with Gally being thrown into the pit. Again. How many nights had he now suffered in there because of you? You didn't want him in there again, not a night longer!
"Oh, to the Maze with Alby!" came Gally's half-joking response as he pulled you closer to him, his hands at the back of your waist.
"Gally!" You giggled as he nuzzled your neck, "Oh, how I love you!"
"I love you, too, Y/N," he whispered, slightly swaying you back and forth as if to the beat of an invisible tune. Then he leaned over and kissed you forcefully.
Suddenly you jerked your hands from around Gally's neck and shoved him away from you as the door was flung abruptly open once more and Frypan walked in. A quick glance assured you that Gally had taken the cue and ducked behind the table, out of sight. And out of trouble, for now.
"Hi, Frypan!" you called out in what you hoped to be a normal, happy voice, but instead the words came out odd and high-pitched causing the opposite effect.
"Um...hi?" he answered; it was more of a question than a statement; then he glanced at the table, "Still working on those pots and pans, I see."
"Oh yes, yes!" you said quickly in a reassuring tone, "I'm almost finished!"
"Right," he said skeptically as he looked over the pile of un-finished cookware on the table compared to the small, water-spotted amount that you had just recently finished. "Okay then, we'll you'd better hurry, Y/N, we've got to start lunch in ten minutes.
"Okay!" you said, a bit too enthusiastically.
You watched as Frypan started for the open door-as slowly as possible it seemed to you-placing a hand on the knob, but then pausing as he turned back in the doorway to look at you.
"Are you alright?" he asked, an eyebrow raised.
"Who, me?" you asked stupidly, "Uh, yeah! I'm fine!"
"You seem...distracted, and...well, flushed."
"I'm fine!" you almost screamed. Why wouldn't he just leave already!?
"Well, okay," Frypan said, somewhat reluctantly. "If you're sure-"
You saw Frypan suddenly flick his eyes to the table once more, and held your breath as Gally quickly ducked back down out of sight. Gally!
You studied Frypan's face, but you couldn't read it. That could be a good thing, right? Or not...
Finally Frypan's gaze turned from the table and back to you, "Hurry and finish those pots," he said before shutting the door behind him.
You let out the breath that you had been holding in a relieved sigh.
"Okay, Gally, you can come up now. I got rid of him!" you said, a hint of pride entering your voice.
"Uh-huh," said Gally standing before he added, "But now I know something about you that I didn't know before."
"And what's that?" you asked happily, staring into his dazzlingly-green eyes.
"You are a terrible cover-up!"
You laughed and he pulled you in for a hug, followed by a long, slow kiss.
"Do you think he saw you?" you asked, "Gally, what were you thinking?"
"Well," he said softly, "If he didn't see my head, he saw my shoes underneath the table, that's for sure."
You sighed in defeat with the realization, "Will you get in trouble?" you asked, already knowing the answer.
Gally just smiled and pulled you in for another kiss, "A night in the pit is worth every second with you!"
