"I thought you said that I needed to go," you said slowly, not wanting to accidentally wake up and find that this was all a dream. The weight of his body on top of yours was tantalizing, as well as his gorgeous green eyes.

"I changed my mind," he answered simply, awkwardly rolling off of you and standing up, then just as awkwardly reaching a hand down to help you up.

You slipped your fingers into his outstretched hand immediately, not wanting him to change his mind and withdraw it, and the ease with which he pulled you up was astonishingly effortless, reminding you yet again of how strong Gally was. You stood before him, still holding his hand, staring in to his eyes, him staring back into yours; then he seemed to realize where he was.

Gally turned and bent over, picking up the torch that had almost gone out with only a faint glow to show as the flame. He blew on it slowly and steadily, and soon it flickered and caught once more into a dancing flame. Then he craned his head up and around, taking in our narrow, dark, ivy-covered surroundings.

"Well, looks like we're stuck out here, Greenie," he said, avoiding your gaze.

"Only for the night," you reminded him. "If I can survive this, they'll let me back in."

Gally looked at you with furrowed eyebrows. "How did you--?" He began, and then his face relaxed into something of a smile. "You naughty little shank," he said, "You were listening to our Council meeting, darn you!"

You smiled innocently, "But it's true. Survive and I'm saved."

"Survive," Gally repeated, looking around him in the torch light once more. "Easier said than done."

"Gally," you ventured. "Why did you risk coming into the Maze...with me?"

He paused, glancing at you, then turned his attention back to the walls, "Like I said, Greenie, I changed my mind."

"Stop calling me Greenie," you said, not liking the way it sounded as he addressed you.

"Alright, what do you want to be called?" he asked, not really paying attention.

"I-" you stammered. "I...I don't..."

Gally's attention was suddenly turned towards you once more. "That's right," he said, "Still haven't remembered your name yet...have you?"

You shook your head, looking down at the outline of your shoes.

"Don't worry," Gally said, taking a step towards you. "You'll get your name back soon. I promise."

You looked into his eyes, the torch light casting wavering patterns across his face and couldn't help but smile. You could tell he wasn't used to trying to comfort anyone-actually, probably more the opposite-but he was trying and you thought it awfully sweet of him, making you love him even more than you already did.

"For now, though," he said, reaching down to his complicated work belt and pulling out a knife, "we should find a better place to...um..."

"Survive?" you offered.

"Uh, yeah," said Gally. "This is sort of a dead end for now, until morning that is." He turned, then hesitated, "Stay close to me," he added.

You both started walking. Every now and then Gally would stop, crouch down and make a small "X" in the ground with the blade of his knife so that you guys could follow them back to the Doors, seeing how Gally was a Builder and had never been in the Maze so he didn't know his way around it.

After a while of this, Gally stopped walking abruptly, causing you to run into him. He turned and put a finger to his lips, pressing his back against the ivy-covered wall. You did the same. And then you heard it. A low, uneven rumble that made your skin crawl. You were so glad that Gally was with you. You looked down to see Gally's fist grasping the hilt of the knife, knuckles white, and you realized that if he was nervous what should you be?
