You stumbled to keep up with Gally as he burst through the door of the Council Hut, entering behind him just in time to see all of the boys turn to face the loud noise that had interrupted the meeting. Judging from the fact that Winston, the Keeper of the Slicers, was standing front and center along with Alby and Newt, you knew that they must have previously been discussing the meat shortage and the disrepair of the Bloodhouse roof.
"Where is he!? Where is that bloody Slinthead!?" Gally's deep, strong voice echoed around the hut, enraged anger in his tone. "He's dead! Dead!"
Thoughts were racing through your head as you tried to wrap your mind around what was going to happen. What was happening.
The seated Gladers turned and looked at each other, the torchlight flickering across their faces enhancing the look of alarm and confusion.
"What's going on?" asked Alby. "Gally, what's the—"
"Where is Dan!?" Gally shouted, fiery eyes darting across the boys, chest heaving, fists clenched.
Suddenly you saw Gally tense, his green eyes glittering hatred in the firelight, and you followed his gaze to the figure of a boy seated in the corner, partially hidden in shadow.
Dan.
"What's the matter?" asked Newt in his usual, slow, controlled tone; but his voice was lost to Gally's.
"You're dead!"
Before you or any of the other Gladers had time to react, Gally lunged. You caught Dan's eyes widen in the torchlight as he stumbled backwards trying to stand in defense, but Gally reached him before he had the chance. In one swift blow Gally had struck Dan across the jaw, throwing him to his knees; then he swung his arm back and slammed him again, sending Dan to the ground unable to block it. But before Gally had the chance to pin Dan beneath him and beat him senseless, Newt leapt forward and grabbed Gally's arm, trying to hold him back. In one sharp motion Gally jabbed backwards and struck Newt in the face with his elbow, causing him to let out an exclamation of pain, sending him backwards covering the side of his face. That snapped everyone else from out of the spell-like observance they had been under.
Thomas ran up and took ahold of Gally's wrist. As Gally turned to fend him off, his other arm was intercepted by Frypan. Gally twisted around trying to get loose and strike Dan at the same time, causing Thomas to almost lose his grip, but Jeff moved forward and clasped Gally's shoulders forcing him back. All three boys, dodging swinging limbs, finally managed to wrestle Gally off enough so that Dan could remove himself from the situation. And that's exactly what he did, jumping up and running for his life, bolting out the door and into the dark night.
"Let me go!" Gally shouted as he watched Dan's retreating form, struggling against his captors. "There's nowhere for you to hide, coward! I know this place blindfolded! You're dead! Let. Me. GO!"
Gally thrashed and fought against the Gladers who were struggling to keep a grip on his strong frame.
"Gally, Gally—calm down, just calm down—" said Newt, who had somewhat recovered from the blow to the cheek. In the firelight you could already tell that it was beginning to turn a red that would eventually develop into a nasty shade of blackish-purple.
"You say that one more time, and I'll rip your face off!" Gally roared.
"Y/N!" said Alby, turning to you. "What's going on?"
"H-he—" you stuttered. "He kissed me and...now he remembers everything."
"What?"
"It's true," said Gally, still enraged, but now that Dan was out of the room he was beginning to calm down a bit. "Get your hands off me!"
