Bitterberry POV

I.. couldn't remember anything at first. I only knew my uncle Papyrus and my father, Sans. Though sometimes he went by Horror to others who looked similar to him. At first I didn't understand that either. Why they looked so similar to him. As I grew older though, as I started to dream.. things started to become clearer. Memories of a life before this. Nothing was crystal clear yet, but I was positive that I'd had something before this. I didn't mention it to my father though. Or uncle. And ESPECIALLY not the queen. "YOU SHOULD EAT, BITTER." I stared down at my plate, then to uncle. I was 3 now, and today I was going to be patrolling with father and uncle.. in this world, food was scarce, and we couldn't afford to be picky.. but I was pretty sure this was once a human, my father had hunted down a few days ago.. it made me feel sick. Uncle sighed. PLEASE BITTER.. WE CAN'T KEEP FEEDING YOU MAGIC, YOU SHOULD HAVE STARTED ON THIS LONG AGO.." I looked back down at the plate of human spaghetti. "NO."
"BITTER." I pushed the plate away. "NO, NO, NO, NO! NO FOOD!"
"BITTERBERRY THE SKELETON, YOU WILL EAT THIS NOW, OR I'LL GET YOUR FATHER!" I went silent. Father, wasn't actually all that scary to me, but.. for some reason.. deep down.. I fear him. He is very kind, yet I fear him. I know he loves me, but I fear him. "GOOD. NOW EAT BEFORE WE LEAVE."

I shuttered as uncle carried me. The food was bad. I wanted nothing more than to empty my stomach of its contents. "WE'RE HERE!" Uncle put me down as father walked around his station. "did he eat?"
"HE.. HE DID.. WITH SOME DIFFICULTY."
"it's better for him to get used to it now..." They kept talking as I slipped away to throw up. How can anybody just eat that stuff? Was there really nothing? Why couldn't I just stay on the liquid magic? "BAD.. YUCKY.. NOT GOOD.." I muttered after I finished. "bitter? bitterberry! come out! the woods aren't safe!" I tensed at fathers voice as images flashed in my head. His red eye glowering down at me, his ax aimed at my head, he was going to kill me! I ran the opposite direction of my father's voice. Deeper into the forest.

I stopped, leaning against a tree. I was small and fast, but I didn't have that much stamina. I couldn't hear him anymore though. That was good.. I think? "DADDY... IS..... SCARY... WHAT A... WHAT A BAD MEMORY....." I was sure it was one of those memories that was mine, but wasn't mine. One of the ones from before this life. If father really had been the one to kill me, it was no wonder I feared him. He killed me, only to raise me in this life? What a cruel joke. "That was a waste of good food, kid." I jumped at the sound of a voice. "Shoulda kept it in, now we're gonna kill ya for wasting it." A rabbit with a knife came out along with two dogs with axes, a dog with swords, and others. I backed myself against the tree. "N-NO.. NO.. DON'T WANNA!"
"But you're gonna!" The rabbit sprang forward.

Horror POV

I should have never took my eyelights off him! Fuck! Who knows what sick, hungry bastards are out there to kill my son! I'll kill them all if they dare try and touch him. H E ' S M I N E . I'd grown attached to the boy over the last few years. He was sweet, strong willed, optimistic, and intelligent though, for some reason, he feared me. Perhaps he'd seen me kill? That'd do it. I've been trying to show him that I care, that I'll always protect him, as a father should. Bitter is my son and I love him. When I heard the sounds of a fight, I ran toward it. It had to be him. A dog swung an ax at Bitter and he was quick to get out of the way. He looked utterly horrified. Red tears ran hot down his face, and his large red pupils had disappeared. His cheerful smile was gone, replaced with a fearful frown. Not in a million years did I ever want to see my boy like this. I s a w r e d .

It covered the snow. It covered my clothes. It covered my hands and skull. It covered my ax. It covered my boy. What remained of my enemies turned to dust. Bitter shivered. I panted. "are.... are you..... ok...?" He looked at me and nodded. "good...... i'm glad....." He was trembling. "...bitter.." He stumbled over and hugged on to me. "TH-THEY WAS GONNA KILL ME..." I put a bloody hand on his head. "i won't let them.." He tightened his grip. "I'M SORRY.."
"there's nothing for you to apologize for." He let me pick him up and carry him. This was the first time in awhile he'd let me do that. "I.. WANNA GET STRONGER.." I looked him in the sockets. "why's that?"
"I.. DON'T WANNA BE WEAK AND VU- VAN-R-BLE." I snickered. "i believe the word you're looking for is vulnerable. how do you know such a big word anyway?" He shrugged. "I WANNA BE STRONG LIKE YOU."
"you're not old enough to use magic yet.. but i'll see what the boys and I can do. He nodded, looking happier. Not afraid. Huh. "you're a strange one, bitter."
