Katsuki picks up the phone on the first ring.

"TEDDYBEAR, WHY ARE YOU JUST NOW CALLING!?" he asks rather loudly. (Y/n) smiles lightly at the familiar yet slightly distorted voice. His tone is filled with anger and a noticeable hint of concern.

He's worried about her.

(Y/n)'s heart twinges with guilt for not calling him sooner as she speaks up.

"Sorry Katsuki, things have been hectic and I wanted to get started on the investigation right away," she explains, "I didn't mean to worry you."

"It's fine," Katsuki replies, much calmer upon hearing his wife's lovely voice, "How's the investigation going?"

"It's been...um...LoVeLy," (y/n) responds with obvious sarcasm.

"Uh-huh, what happened?"

"So, Centipeder called a meeting with all the pros involved," (y/n) begins, "there aren't many but a fair amount. Unfortunately, we have no plan, not much information, and a huge disadvantage."

"I see," Katsuki replies, "what are you going to do then?"

"Well, I already have a pretty good idea of what the league may be planning and I have a good lead, so I'll continue investigating."

"Alright, who's going with you?

(Y/n) gulps. She knows that Katsuki won't like her answer.

"I'm continuing on my own," she replies.

"No, it's dangerous to go alone, take someone with you!" Katsuki demands.

"Katsuki, listen," (y/n) says sternly, earning silence from her husband. She softens her tone and continues, "I'm going to continue alone because of the lead I received. The lead is dangerous, but it's something I have experience with. It'll be better if I'm alone."

There's silence for a few minutes. (y/n) swears she can practically hear Katsuki arguing with himself in his mind.

Finally, Katsuki breaks the silence.

"Yakuza?" he questions.

"Yakuza." (y/n) confirms.

"Fine, just be careful," he finishes. (y/n) smiles and nods, even though he can't see her.

"I promise."

The rest of the call lasts over an hour and consists of a variety of topics. They discuss how their former classmates and mentors are doing, how their friends and coworkers in America are faring, and how the children are doing in school. A good portion of the call is spent with (y/n) talking to the children.

She's happy to hear about Aiko's sports and how she's doing so well in Karate. The young girl is quite excited to have just earned her yellow belt at such a young age. (Y/n) congratulates her and happily listens to her excited voice as she tells many stories.

Hiro is much calmer in his tone. (y/n) also detects a hint of sadness. When she asks about she receives a small 'I really miss you,' in reply. Her heart aches at that and she wants nothing more than to jump through the phone and hug her baby boy. He's always been anxious and (y/n) and Katsuki have been seriously considering having him tested for anxiety, so leaving him so suddenly for so long must be making him nervous.

She changes the subject in hopes of cheering him up. She asks him about library club, which has not changed much, and about video games she knows he likes.  He happily explains his favorite book and the newest update to his games.

After a while longer she has to wish them goodbye since they have school. The two children give cheery goodbyes, much happier after speaking to their mother.

Katsuki ends the call with one last 'stay safe,' before hanging up.

(Y/n) sighs as she looks at the time spent on call.

2 hours.

I'm glad I was using wifi for that call.

(y/n) looks over at the clock. It's currently 8 pm.

The (h/c)-haired woman sighs. It's early, too early for her to sleep, though she's too exhausted to move. Despite the time, (y/n) slowly drifts off into a peaceful sleep.

...

The next morning (y/n) wakes feeling refreshed and full of energy. She decides to use this energy to continue her investigation. Though first, there's a problem.

If I inform the other heroes of this, they'll ask too many questions and have me take too many precautions for me to work freely, (y/n) realizes, To get the most out of my investigation I'd have to work in secret, though that would raise suspicion.

A moment passes of (y/n) staring at her luggage as she ponders her next move. She decides to spend the day relaxing to clear her head, that way she can make her decision when she's in a better frame of mind.

Content with the plan, (y/n) changes into a suitable ensemble, does her makeup, and grabs her purse. Just as she's about to exit the room, she takes one last glance at her luggage. She freezes near the door, contemplating something. Finally, she opens her bag and pulls out a very important item.

A locket.

The locket is silver and heart-shaped, with small intricate designs carved into the light metal. (y/n) opens the locket to reveal two photos.

The first is a picture of her biological parents, her brother, and herself in front of a white fountain. It was taken when she was only 6 years old, though it's the only picture she has of them. Her parents died not even a year later when she was 7.

The second picture is of Katsuki, Aiko, Hiro, and herself, as well as the family dog. It's a much more recent photo of the family, taken only a few months ago. It features the family sitting on the couch in their living room. The couch is littered with scratch marks and a few burns from Katsuki's explosions getting out of hand during a particularly intense movie.

The family sits together on the couch, Katsuki and (y/n) on either side of their children. Hiro sits closest to Katsuki, a polite smile on his face. His (h/c) hair was as messy as always. His bright red eyes twinkled in the sunlight. Aiko sat next to her mother, her ash-blonde hair tied into two small pigtails with red bows. Her also red eyes glisten, appearing to be more like a raging fire than those of her twin. All wear semi-formal clothes in their favorite colors. From left to right: (f/c), red, blue, orange. In between the twins is the family dog, a fluffy Pomeranian named Missy, short for Missile.

(y/n) smiles at the photos, though her eyes rest on her mother. Her mother with her long (h/c) lokes, perfectly tied back into a braided bun with a few well-placed curls framing her face. Her (e/c) eyes glisten in the bright sunlight of the summer day the photo was taken. She wears a simple white sun dress with a bright smile.

She looked so innocent, though her words now seem to torment her daughter more than any other words she knows.

"There are some things you can never escape, even if you were never involved."
