(Bakugo POV)
There she is, my teddy bear, unconscious and unaware of what's happening around her.
Dumb hair, Deku and I find her in a cell with a boy and a cat. She mumbles, saying things like fire, smoke, and lion. I listen carefully; sometimes she says crucial information in her sleep.
Deku checks on the boy while Kirishima picks up the kitten.
"It looks like both her back legs are broken," he says.
...
"Are you stupid?"
"huh?"
"That cat's a boy, dumb hair."
"Are you sure?"
"Check."
...
"oh... you're right."
"Idiot."
I turn back to (y/n). She seems fine, with no external injuries. She occasionally coughs so I turn her onto her side to be safe. I quickly check her neck for any bruising or signs of impact.
Nothing.
How did they knock her out?
"Oi, Deku, find anything?
"No Kacchan," Deku replies, "There are many injuries on the boy, he has a broken leg and a bunch of cuts. We should take them to the hospital."
"UA's closer, we'll take them there. Just get them out of here." I say, standing up and making my way to the door.
"Where are you going?" Kirishima asks. I don't even need to turn around to know that he's following me.
"I know (y/n), and she wouldn't want this mission to go unfinished because of her injuries. I'll go finish up and meet you at UA with the information." I explain, thinking back a little.
...
It was two years ago when the mission went south. It wasn't mine, though, it was my wife's mission.
I entered the living room after a long day, fully expecting (y/n) to be waiting for me. Instead, I find the sitter and my kids still playing.
"(y/n) hasn't arrived yet?" I questioned. The woman turned to me, her happy expression quickly turning sour.
"How can you both be heroes, neither of you are on time for anything. Mrs. Bakugo was supposed to arrive three hours ago to pay me but instead, I've been caring for your children. I better be getting double pay for this."
I was angry at the woman for being so snippy, we told her we could be late since we both had missions today, and we agreed to pay her for the hours she was here, not extra. I have the contract to prove it.
But more than that, I was worried. A whole three hours late, that's unlike my teddy bear. I growl, turning to leave. The woman screams at me, making my kids cry. So I turn again to calm them down.
Suddenly, as the sitter is still yelling at me, I feel my phone buzz and barely hear it ring. I put the kids on the couch and answer, setting off a small explosion to shut the sitter up.
She goes silent just as I hit accept.
"Hello?"
"Hello, I'm looking for Mr. Bakugo."
"Speaking..."
"Good day Mr. Bakugo, I'm calling from the West Makota Private Hospital regarding your wife,"
I felt my heart drop. "IS SHE ALL RIGHT?"
"Calm down sir, she's fine. Her condition is stable, though she is suffering a few broken ribs, and a broken leg, and seems to have a mild concussion. Could you come down to fill out paperwork and see her?"
"Yeah, I'm on my way."
"Thank-"
I cut her off by hanging up and quickly grabbed Aiko and Hiro. I give the sitter the money we owe and kick her out of the house. After loading the twins into the car, I drive off to the hospital where my wife is waiting.
I'm quick to fill out the forms and make my way to her room. There she is, crying about how 'it's all her fault.'
It turns out, the rescue mission failed, and three of the hostages died.
She blamed herself for getting injured, causing a few heroes to be forced to retreat.
...
I remember how devastated she was about the mission. She attended all the funerals, she donated a large sum of money out of her pocket to the victim's families, and it took her months to get over the situation.
"I'm a hero," she'd say, "But I failed to save people who were right in front of me."
I get it, I feel the same way.
I refuse to fail because that's what it means to be a hero.
A hero always wins.
So I'm going to win.
