Recovery Girl sits and fiddles with some machines. I turn to Katsuki, silently praying this isn't what I think it is.
Katsuki looks back at me with worried eyes. He grabs my hand, gently squeezing it as he sits in the chair next to my bed.
"So deary, when did you learn you were pregnant?" RG asks. She fiddles with a couple of wired sensors, placing both on my belly where my uterus is.
"When did we first make a plan? That night is when I found out." I somewhat mumble, trying to get a grasp on time. How long was I out for?
"Alright, about two weeks ago," Katsuki replies. Recovery girl nods as she works with the machine. Soon, a small sound is heard, a barely there thumping.
"Is that..."
"Their heartbeat..."
A small, barely there heartbeat.
A baby.
My baby.
"Teddybear..."
I look over at my wonderful husband. Our eyes don't meet; Ruby orbs are glued to the screen showing our newest family member.
"Both you and the baby seem healthy, so I see no need for an abortion. It's up to you how you want to handle the situation and where you want to deliver the baby. I would suggest remaining in Japan if you can; It's risky to travel while pregnant."
Honestly, I'm not listening. The words fly through my ears, I can only focus on one thing.
My baby's ok.
They're alright.
We talk with RG for a while, mostly reviewing the basics of a healthy pregnancy and what we should expect. We ultimately decided to stay in Japan until our child is born. We call up Amethyst, Ruby, and Zach. The three of them promise to cover for us until return to America.
And so, we get started planning our next 9 or so months; making arrangements for housing, work, and our children's schooling.
The housing and work came surprisingly easily. The moment it was mentioned, Kirishima offered his guest room to us. We took it, though a little reluctantly because I didn't want to be a burden, but he assured us that we wouldn't be an issue.
Nezu decided that Katsuki should teach at UA, for some reason... and has offered him a temporary position. The pay will cover most of our expenses, which combined with the hero work Katsuki will be doing, should cover our entire stay in Japan until we return to America.
Only one thing left: the children's schooling. They're only in daycare right now, but they're supposed to be going into kindergarten this year, and we need to find a school. Nezu offered to tutor the twins, but Katsuki and I want them to attend a true kindergarten, so they can socialize with kids their age.
After a bit of searching, we finally found a kindergarten that'll accept the twins.
It's close to Kirishima's place, and Tsu and Tokoyami live right next door with their kids, who go to the same school. This means if anything happens we could pick up their kids or they could pick up ours.
With this string of luck, we settle into what will be our home for the next year or so.
...
"Thank you again, Kirishima. We truly appreciate you opening your home to us."
"Call me Eijiro, and don't worry about it, there's plenty of room. Make yourselves at home." The once again redhead says as he leads us through the lovely house. He stops and motions to two doors opposite each other.
"This one on the right is for you and Katsuki. On the left is for the twins."
"Thanks, Ki-"
Red-eyed glaring from our host to Katsuki.
"-Eijiro..."
And a toothy smile. It's strange how they still act like best of friends despite years apart. It's comforting in a way, as though the first-year incident never actually happened.
But it did. It happened, and it hurt. I should be over it by now, it hasn't bothered me for a few years, but thinking about that year is making my stomach knot.
"Hey, teddybear, you seem tired. Why don't you get some rest and I'll tuck the kiddos into bed." Katsuki suggests, pulling me closer into a warm embrace. The comforting heat of his body and the familiar smell of sweet caramel and smoke relaxes me, making me realize just how exhausted I am. It's been a long day, no, two months at this point. I deserve a nice rest.
I give Katsuki a small nod and a kiss on the cheek. He ushers me into our room before leaving with Eijiro to get the twins to bed.
I let out a sigh and head to the small washroom attached to the room. I brush my teeth and hair, change into my softest sleepwear, and collapse back first onto the mattress. Sliding a hand over my belly, a feel a small smile creep onto my face.
"You came around at a strange time, little one. Not even kicking yet, and you're already quite the troublemaker, making us stay here like this." I chuckle a little at the thought, "You take after your parents already, that's for sure."
"They sure do..."
Katsuki chuckles at my comment. He closes the door and chucks off his shirt and pants before crawling into the bed next to me. He gives a soft kiss on my nose as he places a calloused hand on mine. We stay like this for while, adjusting our positions slightly so I can rest my head on Kat's chest.
He pulls the blanket over our bodies and pulls me closer. Burying his face in my hair, he slowly drifts off to sleep. I follow suit, soon finding my way to dreamland.
Goodnight Katsuki.
Goodnight Aiko.
Goodnight Hiro.
Goodnight...
