"I shouldn't... I really shouldn't...I'm doing it."
(Y/n) walks into the building she attempted to talk herself out of visiting. She's immediately surrounded by the intoxicating aroma of sweet pastries and jams. Cakes, cookies, and other baked goods line the shelves, coaxing her to buy something.
The young woman walks to the front counter, admiring the cakes on display. Their beautiful decorations only make them more appealing.
"Hello, welcome to Sweet Dreams, how can I help you?" the cashier asks, breaking (y/n) from her thoughts.
"Good morning," (y/n) greets, "may I buy... that cake please."
(y/n) points to the cake she wants. It's a beautiful cake decorated with an assortment of icing flowers and chocolate pearls. It's her favorite flavor, making it even more perfect.
The man behind the counter nods and carefully removes the cake from the display. He places it in a travel box and seals the package with a bow. He thanks (y/n) for her purchase and wishes her a pleasant day. (y/n) responded with an appropriate word of thanks and wishes the man well. She grabs a utensil kit from the counter and leaves the bakery.
(y/n) walks to a public park and sits at one of the many picnic benches to enjoy her breakfast, the cake. She eats the majority of the cake before she begins to feel sick, causing her to stop. She repackages the remains of the treat, as not to waste them.
Carrying the box with her, (y/n) wanders along the path in the park. The cool breeze and soft sounds of nature help her to ease her mind of the thoughts that plagued her mind this morning.
Unfortunately, they refuse to disappear. Instead, they whispered in the back of her mind, telling things she already knows about herself and reminding her of the decision she must make.
Her bittersweet walk took her from the calm park to the bustling city. It was a welcome change as it led (y/n) to the shopping center, where she would spend the rest of the morning and most of the afternoon.
While the window shopping seemed to distract her for time, it didn't take long for her weighing thoughts to return. They mostly focus on her mother, an important figure in her early life. People know her father better, seeing as he was a pro hero and (y/n) has always acted more like him. However, she's more like her mother than she's willing to admit.
(y/n) shakes her head to clear her thoughts. It doesn't work, but she tries. She continues window shopping, buying herself a couple of things though not much. Once she gets hungry again, she decides to buy lunch.
(y/n) makes her way to the food court. She walks somewhat slowly, still distracted by her own mind.
She orders her favorite meal and sits at a table in the corner. Having nothing to do, she pulls out her phone.
Mild mistake.
The first thing that appears is an article regarding the recent attack on the police station.
(y/n) signs but she reads the article nonetheless.
The article, for the most part, doesn't give much new information. However, (y/n) does take note of some of the witness accounts.
"I saw Toga run out of the police station and down an alleyway."
"I was just walking to work when I saw a naked blonde girl with space buns run out of the station. It looked like she was heading towards the subway."
"I didn't see much. She moved so fast that she was just a blur but I think I saw her turn onto Hajime street."
(y/n) takes mental notes of the most important information, mostly locations.
"Hajime street..." (y/n) thinks, "That street is mostly apartment buildings, plenty of places to hide, though that's only if the League have a small base or safe house in the area. It would make more sense for them to set up base further away and take a less straightforward route. Though someone else said that she ran down an alleyway, meaning either perspective or inconsistent location are in play."
(Y/n) sits there, contemplating the complex queries in her mind.
She sits there for so long, staring into blank space, that one of the janitors that are always cleaning pokes her to make sure she's alive.
Then she apologizes profusely and leaves quickly out of pure embarrassment.
(y/n) decides to return to the hotel, seeing as she feels too embarrassed to continue the day right away. Keeping her head down, she quickly makes her way back to her room. Fortunately, if you don't draw attention to yourself, people tend not to notice you. Therefore, (y/n) makes it back without further incidents.
The moment she returns to her room she collapses onto her bed, which has become the norm for our dear protagonist.
Sighing, (y/n) looks at the time.
4 pm.
Lunch must have been late.
(y/n) groans, not knowing what do to seeing as she's not hungry, not tired, and doesn't want to leave the room to do anything.
She ultimately decides to just lay on her bed and exist.
Unfortunately, that leads to more thoughts.
Fortunately, these thoughts are exactly what she needs to decide her next move. Without batting an eye, she raises herself from the bed, grips her locket, and walks towards her luggage.
She quickly sorts through everything she brought along. Taking the small backpack she brought with her, (y/n) packs a few comfortable clothes, her cell phone, some small toiletries she stole from the hotel bathroom, her knife, and a few energy bars and drinks. She changes into a black t-shirt and hoodie with a matching pair of leggings.
The young woman gathers all her other belongings and hastily stuffs them in her suitcase, carefully placing the most important item on top.
She seals the suitcase, double-checking everything is in order, before putting on her sneakers and leaving the room.
All she leaves behind is a tip for the cleaners and a single note.
"Dear Heroes,
Don't look for me."
...
A/n: sorry if this part seems rushed. It's late and I'm adjusting to a new sleep schedule. I hope you are all enjoying the story thus far. Always remember that feedback is welcome and I'm more than happy to answer questions.
Have a wonderful day/night dear Cyclones.
