(y/n POV)

Project C47?

My eyebrows scrunched in confusion. Kirishima never mentioned anything called project C47, so it probably has nothing to do with his organization. Even so, I can't help but be curious about it.

Curiosity killed the cat.

Honestly, death is the least of my problems.

I slowly and quietly open the door. The room on the other side is filled with strange machines and equipment I've never seen. It looks like some lab out of a horror movie.

I scan the room, quickly finding the mad scientist.

He looks exactly like a mad scientist should. Gray hair standing on end, a lab coat, and goggles. He mumbles incoherently as he shuffles around the room.

I look past the man and scan the room. On the counter space nearby, I spot a crate. It doesn't look important, but the man keeps looking at it and touching it as he mumbles. On the wall opposite me, I see a first-aid kit. Getting it would be great, I could treat the civilian's injuries properly.

I quickly create a small flaming bird, the size of a sparrow. It hovers above my palm, tiny sparks appearing around it.

I direct the phoenix towards the man, keeping it heated hot enough to stun the man it hits.

And it hits.

It hits him right in the back of the neck, shocking him. I move quickly, knocking him out with a swift neck chop. I watch as he falls to the ground.

The first thing I do is lock the door and block it by jamming a chair under the handle.

Immediately after, I place the civilian on a couch/bed-like platform. I make sure he's comfortable before grabbing the first-aid kit off the wall. I carefully tend to the man's wounds, wrapping, and disinfection each incision. He has one broken leg, so I create a makeshift splint using a baseball bat I find in the room.

Somehow, that makes me question the scientist's sanity a little more.

A chill goes down my spine at the thought, but I quickly shake it away to focus on the task at hand.

I check the over the man again to make sure I haven't missed any injuries that need to be treated. Upon finding nothing, I sigh in relief.

I need to wait for the man to wake before I can continue, for his safety and mine. I was fortunate to make it this far with him on my back, but I doubt my luck would keep up and I'd rather not risk it.

Being a hero is about taking risks, but not ones that would put civilians in grave danger. If I can help it, I want to keep civilians as far away from the danger zone as possible, literally and figuratively.

While I wait for the man to open his eyes, my eyes land on the box the scientist was fiddling with earlier. Curiosity gets the better of me and I slowly approach the mysterious box.

I feel like Pandora, I shouldn't open this box, but curiosity tugs at my mind constantly as I slowly approach the box I probably shouldn't open.

And yet, I do.

I slowly lifted the strange box's lid and found myself greeted by an unexpected sight.

"Meow?"

I stare in shock at the small kitten, curled in the corner of the box. It cowers at the sight of me, its unnaturally thin body shaking.

The sight makes me want to cry, I've always had a soft spot for animals.

Slowly, I reach for the kitten. It tries to move away from my touch, but there's nowhere for it to move in the small box. I carefully take the kitten and cradle it in my arms.

The kitten keeps shaking, so I try stroking its fur to calm it. It seems to work as it slowly stops shaking. Now that the creature has calmed down, I'm capable of better examining its features.

The small kitten has golden-colored fur that appears more orange at its paws and the tip of its tail. Its fur is short and soft, though the dirt, dust, and dandruff betray how long it's been since the kitten has been cleaned.

The poor kitten slowly falls asleep, it's shaking stops, and it completely relaxes in my arms.

"Poor thing," I mumble.

A sound catches my attention, causing me to turn towards the man I had rescued.

I watch the body shake and stir, bringing a sense of urgency and relief to my mind. I adjust my hold on the kitten, moving to craddle it in the crook of my non-dominent arm.

I rush over to the man.

"Sir are you alright?"

"AHHH!"

I freeze as the man recoils in fear. I stare for a moment, then I let out a small sigh.

Of course he's frightened, he's been at the mercy of Toga and Reisha for who knows how long. I know from experience how ruthless those two can be.

I remember my own time with the sisters. I remember the pain, blood, and constant sting of cold blades piercing my flesh. Even hearing their names can still cause me to flinch, and I wasn't in their hold for very long.

Slowly, being careful not to make any sudden movements, I sit on my knees a good distant away from the man.

I've done this before, I can do it again.
