I didn't exchange a single word with Beast when I went to meet him in his office after eating and getting changed. And we'd been driving for more than twenty minutes now when he suddenly looked at the side mirror.
"Did you notice the red mustang behind us?" He suddenly asked.
I frowned and looked through the side mirror. "No...yes. I didn't notice it before now."
"They're following us."
"Oh." Did he mean following us like bodyguards who didn't want to stay so close or following us like they were bad guys tailing us?
"Check the box at the backseat and and bring out the small revolver there."
Revolver? Gun?
I did as instructed without questions.
"Here it is." I stretched it to him.
"Can you drive?"
"I...not very well. Dennis had been teaching me on some mornings before I had to leave."
"Okay. You'll handle them while I maneuver."
I almost spat blood as my hands turned cold. Maneuver what?
"Hey, calm down. You can take them down and you will. There's a yellow one behind them as well, so tackle the first car before that. I'll wind down now. You know how to use a gun, sì?"
"Sì. But I can only target the heart and the crotch, I'm just learning. These people are in their car. I'm afraid..."
"Don't be." He placed his warm, large hand on mine and I saw the side of his lips tug up when I shuddered. "I believe in you, and this is a highway so there are no cars all around. Now shoot their glasses. No matter what you do, aim for the drivers seat."
"What if I don't manage to get them?"
He looked deeply into my eyes before going back to face the road. Then I screamed when a shot was fired at us, ducking in fright. My heart was hammering in my chest.
Why didn't he bring any bodyguard with us?!
Beast rolled down the glass and I stretched my hand out. He maneuvered to the left so the car was to my right and I shot twice. I swayed when we were fired at again and tried to calm myself, aiming swiftly and shooting at the driver. Then I shot five times at the tires, consecutively.
They shrieked and drove sideways and crashed into the trees.
The second car came into view and I quickly targeted the driver's seat. The person at the back climbed out, making his torso totally out as he shot furiously. I ducked and screamed several times but tried to focus.
Then I aimed once and shot him on his left eye and he fell, swinging halfway down in a position that had his head dangling in the air.
I faced the driver's seat and fired several times just as someone else fired at us.
Beast had been shouting but in order to focus on what I was doing, I'd tuned him out. He was shouting louder now, calling me.
The other car I shot at had lost control, so I took a deep breath and sat. Beast was uttering what I guessed to be curse words.
I frowned and faced him, weakly sliding back in to relax my back and exhale. All of a sudden, I yelped and felt chill spread through me at a sudden impact from behind.
