Luciano's POV
*
When I said I wanted to Netflix and chill, I'd only said it for Riley's sake.
I couldn't allow my mind to be at rest with the fact that despite the feedback I sent two days ago, that man still had to resort to these tricky methods to get a feedback from me.
I knew he was the one, but that didn't mean I wouldn't have Massimo gather more information from the two men that had been captured. The third man who committed suicide knew what was at stake and chose the easy way out. I wouldn't be so merciful on the other two men.
I opened the door to my room, ushering Riley's form in.
She looked so little and lost. I wanted to do everything in my power to protect her.
Even though she'd tried not to show it, I could see the fear and panic in her eyes earlier on. She was smart though, and that was how she knew she'd been the target. But I would have to take steps towards protecting her from now on.
"Beast, are you going somewhere?" She asked after stepping in, probably because she didn't feel my presence directly behind her.
"No." I shut the door. "Why?"
"I don't...want to be alone." She replied with battle in her eyes, as if she hated the idea of sharing how she felt with me.
"You won't. I'm here."
Two men were stationed at my room entrance. I never saw the need for heavy security, because this was home but things would have to change.
"Do you think there's a need for us to chill and cuddle in bed?" She asked me, her bright and expressive eyes shining as she asked the question while also taking off her slippers to kick it away.
"I do. Why?"
"We could do other things." She shrugged and put on her yellow flip flops which was now permanently left at the edge of my bed.
"Like?" I dug my hands into my pockets.
"Like, you telling me who all those people are. First, I was targeted at the cinemas when I went with Dennis, next I was targeted when we were on our way over here, then the snake attack and then last week's incident. It gets tiring."
I didn't like explaining myself.
I looked at her and looked away before shifting my gaze to her once more.
"I'm taking care of it."
"But at least-" she raised her voice and a stern look from me had her halting. "Can you at least tell me about these things? I have to walk with my spare life now in case someone suddenly guns me down or something." She asked softly.
Resigning, I sat at the edge of the bed and pulled her to me. "Those guys at the cinemas were targeting you because of the witness case but it has been sorted out. They work for an underground boss, the same person that sent those men to us last week. I was actually on my way to an important meeting with that man being one of the contributors of that meeting. The snake incident was caused by my late uncle, Ron."
"What about today's attack? And what will you do about that man that keeps sending people to attack me?"
"I've dealt with him."
"Huh?" She looked up at me, her brows scrunching up in confusion. "Wh-when? How?"
I wrapped my arms around her waist and pecked her stomach impulsively, liking how flat it was due to the exercises she'd been doing for a while.
