Riley's POV
*
"Morning." I greeted the Beast and yawned. His bed was so big that we didn't even have to touch bodies when we slept and he wasn't in the room when I woke up this morning. There were things we needed to discuss and even more things bothering me.
One, the kisses we shared yesterday. Because it wasn't once or even twice that we kissed. Did that mean he liked me? I liked him a little but then, he was the Beast. Stiff, cold and indifferent. So it would take a lot of hard work since I myself had only ever dated once.
Two, we needed to discuss about my studies and the admission I'd been given in the university.
Three, I needed to confirm what happened that day when I was bitten by a snake. I was aware that the Beast knew why that actually happened to me in a secure area and also, had he really changed my clothes himself? I didn't feel comfortable with that.
"Morning." He replied me, taking off his suit jacket, which showed that he'd just arrived from a meeting or one of his outings.
"You went out?"
"Hmm. How are you?" He felt my forehead and then proceeded to peck me there. My heart fluttered, just as it did several times yesterday.
"I'm fine, I want to ask you some things."
"Ask." He sat on the chair and adjusted his tie, trying to take it off.
My eyes followed the act and I couldn't help licking my suddenly dry lips because even though he was just casually adjusting his tie before taking it off, it gave off a very mature and mouthwatering sight.
Coupled with the way his veiny, sexy looking hands carried out the action.
Ugh.
"Riley?" His deep baritone brought me out of my trailing thoughts and I blinked.
"Yes?"
"You wanted to ask me something?"
"Yes, of course." I cleared my throat and my mood shifted into a more serious one as I avoided his eyes.
I needed to avoid looking at him because whenever I looked into his eyes, I always had this feeling as if I was treading a dangerous path.
"The day when I got bitten by a snake, what truly happened?"
"My uncle planned it all." He replied, without even missing a second.
My heart skipped a beat. I never even knew the man really well before he was beheaded, except the times we both sat at the table. Out paths never crossed in any sense as well. Why would he do that to me?
I felt the sides of my lips tremble a little. One really needed to be careful because the person who was your own flesh and blood could be the same one stabbing you in the back and also taking you to the hospital.
"Okay." My small voice came out in a whisper, weaker that I'd expected. "Then later that day when I passed out, did you really change my clothes?"
"No."
My brows furrowed. "Then why did you say you changed it?"
"I wanted to make a joke, like a tease but you didn't take it well." He told me with a straightforward face and I almost spluttered.
"A joke?!" I shouted but calmed down when he shot me a glare with his usually frosty expression. "I, well, please never make jokes again because you're very bad at them. You made me feel violated that day."
