minho turned around and a smile instantly made its way on his lips once he came face to face with chan. the older male rubbed his nape nervously, a soft pink color covering his cheeks. he looked anxious and weary, something that of course didn't go unnoticed by minho.
"hey channie! is everything alright?" the younger asked as he placed both his arms around chan's torso and nuzzled his face into the elder's soft sweater. chan giggled and ruffled the younger's hair with his fingers, gently bringing the boy closer to him.
"everything is great sweetheart. i just need to talk to you for a second, can you come with me?"
minho suddenly froze and slowly pulled away from the hug, an expression full of panic and worry on his face. "y-you want to talk to me? why? did i do something w-wrong?"
chan shook his head and grabbed minho's now trembling hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing it tenderly. "you did nothing wrong. don't worry okay, it's nothing bad. i just want to tell you something but i want to do it privately, that's why i want you to follow me in my room." he reassured minho who looked like he was on the verge of a panic attack.
the younger relaxed a bit and just submitted into the older's touch, leaning closer to his body, making chan smile brightly and envelope the boy in a strong embrace. "i thought you were going to tell me that you don't like me anymore or something like that hyung. i got so scared!" minho whined and pouted and chan had to mentally punch himself to stop his lips from landing on the younger's ones.
"i would never say anything like that min. i can guarantee that you're never gonna hear any of these words coming out of my lips."
minho smiled shyly and once again interlocked his fingers with chan's biggest ones and swung them back and forth happily. "good! now let's go! i wanna hear what you want to say to me!"
chan laughed at the boy's cuteness and softly pulled him with him as he walked towards his room. his heart still did backflips in his chest but he tried not so show it, not wanting minho to get worried or suspicious.
he had to make this moment unforgettable for both of them.
as soon as they arrived at chan's room, the older boy closed the door behind him and sat down on the bed next to minho who was patiently expecting chan's next words. he still had that beautiful smile on his face and the older man really prayed that it wouldn't go away after what he'd hear.
"so" chan began, avoiding meeting minho's eyes that were still focused on him.
"so" minho repeated.
"i want you to promise me something before i begin." chan said. "i want you to promise me that you won't interrupt me until i finish. and i also want you to promise me that no matter what, you won't run away from me."
minho raised an eyebrow in confusion but he nodded nonetheless. "okay? i don't see why i'd ever run away from you but sure, i promise i won't. and i'll let you finish before i talk."
chan grinned. "good." the blond male let out a shaky exhale before grabbing both minho's smaller hands tightly into his own ones. "minho, these past few months we've been through a lot. actually, you've been through a lot and i was just always there for you, trying to protect you and make you feel safe. we met really unexpectedly and to be completely honest, i was really confused at first, i didn't really know if i should open up to you or push you away. you could have been a random person trying to pull a prank on me or something. i only realized how much i actually cared for you when i first heard your voice in that phone call. it sounded so sincere and soft, i couldn't not believe you. since that day, you've been occupying a really special, unique place in my heart.
"all these months we've spent together, i felt the connection between us getting stronger and stronger day by day and the feelings i had for you grew more and more until they developed into something else, something more than just love for a friend. especially after our first kiss i couldn't control my feelings anymore so i admitted to myself that i actually fell for you. and i fell hard. so hard it hurt. it hurt to see you like that, in pain, scared and lonely. it hurt so much. i wanted you to be happy and never have to go through the same emotions again."
chan smiled bitterly and squeezed minho's hands gently. the younger's eyes looked teary and shaky. yet he remained silent, as he promised, he waited for chan to finish first.
"i love you minho. i love you so much. you mean the world to me, my love. and i know my feelings, even if not completely, they're still mutual. you like me too as you've said. and that makes me the happiest man on this universe. and the luckiest one."
chan let go of minho's now shaking hands and placed his hand inside his pocket, pulling out a small box. "so, lee minho. my love. my light. my angel. my sunshine. my whole universe. will you do me the honor of becoming my beloved boyfriend?" the older man said and opened the box, revealing a thin necklace with a small, orange, animated cat hanging at the edge.
minho didn't even hesitate, he dove right into chan's arms and hugged him tightly as he sobbed and trembled in his chest. chan hugged him back and blinked his own tears away, not wanting to get emotional in front of the younger.
"is that a yes?" chan giggled and minho pulled away from the embrace and wiped his eyes with his sleeves that still leaked no matter how hard he tried to get rid of the humidity.
"are you kidding? how would i ever say no! of course it's a yes channie! the biggest yes i've said in my entire life! i love you so much!" minho yelled and suddenly attacked chan, connecting his lips with the older man's ones and wrapping his limbs tightly around his torso. chan was taken aback but he soon reciprocated the kiss and enveloped the younger too.
their kiss turned passionate almost immediately but they had to pull away only after a few seconds since the younger could hardly breathe out of overexcitement.
"you got me a necklace?" minho asked, his eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation. chan chuckled and handed minho the box who instantly squealed as soon as he saw the necklace. "oh my god it's so cute!"
"i know you wouldn't want me to spend too much money for an expensive necklace so i got you this from that company we were talking about some days ago that provides money for the stray cats. i think it's more meaningful for you than a simple necklace from a jewelry store."
minho's eyes doubled in size and a wide, happy smile spread on his face. "that's so thoughtful of you channie! you're amazing do you know that? thank you so much, i really don't deserve-"
"shut up." chan cut him off. "i don't wanna hear the word deserve coming out of your mouth ever again okay? you deserve the whole world."
minho shook his head but smiled anyways. he knew he couldn't beat chan. even if he kept underestimating himself and his worth, chan would always be there to remind him that he deserves much more than what he believes. he'd always be there to show him how much he loved him.
