Benji's POV:

Thursday is mine and Jesse's day to cook, I've noticed it's me and Jesse that are the only two that cook together. I wonder why, as we're walking back to the dorm, he seems puzzled or lost in thought, "Bruh you okay?" I ask, Jesse snaps out of his trail of thought and looks at me, "Eh? What? Oh... sorry, something weird happened today but I can't seem to remember..." he trails off. "Oh?" I raise my eyebrow at him, "Yeah like I know something happened, but I just... " he trails off. "Man that would annoy the fuck outta me," "It really is," He nods in agreement. "Anyway, where did you run off to?" He asks, I grin tapping my nose, I had managed to find a spot on the roof to draw in peace and quiet, so far only Nixie has found me there but that was the day I embarrassed myself, thankful on the way back Jesse and I was lost in chitter chatter about all the colours he'd dyed his hair, I'd shocked him with never dying my hair, "Oh you'll have to let me dye it blue, or pink! OH! I know green!" He beams waving his fingers, I laugh, shaking my head, "No thank you, I like my hair the colour it is," I say running my fingers through my hair, he pouts and I can't help my laugh. "You're no fun Benji, brown is boring," he says in a sulky voice "Burrrrr, I like my hair."

"So what are we cooking?" He asks as I pull the ingredients out of the fridge, "I was thinking chilli," I say. "Oh cool. How'd you make that?" I blink at him, "Excuse me?" Jesse points his fingers together, "I can't really cook," he whispers embarrassed, I roll my sleeves of my school shirt "Looks like I'm gonna have to teach you then," I smile, Jesse returns a smile and rolls up his sleeves.

"Don't put too much chilli in!" He cries, "Eh? Why? It's meant to be hot!" I blink, "I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to hot food," I sigh, I know myself, Akio, Bibby, Kamal, Nixie and Kohdor likes spice, I didn't think to ask the others, "Grab another pot then, we'll have to make a fresh one that's not that hot, do you think you'll be able to do that yourself?" I ask, he nods and cracks on cooking mince, draining the fat, throws in mixed taco beans, tomato parasta, diced garlic I'd prepared earlier, onions and a bit of chilli powder, "I'm impressed, you're learning quick." I complement "Thanks, you're a good teacher and thanks for helping me in art as well. I'm hopeless," he says, "Nah you're not, it takes time and a lot of practise. You'll get there in the end," I smile, Jesse looks down at the pot "Hey, you don't mind that I'm bi do you?" He randomly asks, it throws me off chopping more garlic, shit I knew this was coming, I put the knife down and sigh, "No, I don't have a problem with it, why'd you ask?" I ask, turning to him. "Well you blurted it out, so I just guessed you had something against it," he replied. I shake my head "The thing is, I came from a very strict christian family, so its not really something we talk about," I shrug its not really a lie, "I see," Jesse says, "So your family is against same sex relationships?" I nod avoiding eye contact with him, "So is mine," he whispers "How so?" I ask, he sighs looking down "My mum and dad won't accept that I'm bisexual or how I have my hair, the only person that does is my sister," he smiled. Seems we're in the same boat, but it's only my mum and dad that know, "I know someone that was sent to camp to 'fix' them," I lie, well it's kinda not, but is. "Wait, they have that in England?" He asks surprised. "If you know some people," I shrug "Damn," he says, "Wait, so if you're a christain why are you here?" he asks "Bad chrisitan," I shrug "I use to sneak out and go clubbing with my friend Amanda as well as these," I say pushing on my spider bites, "I'm open minded about things, I don't care what you are or what you do as long as you respect me, I'll respect back," Jesse nods, "Maybe my folks and brother could use that," he says. "So what happened to you friend then? Did the camp fix them?" "Oh hell no, he's gay as fuck, but I remember seeing him at the hosptail... his dad..." I trail off, I don't want talking about it, I remember being 17 and the look Amanda gave me when I told her I'd fallen off my quad bike when she knew what really happened, she was the only one who knew I'm gay until I met Ruben, Jesse looked down, "I feel if people shouldn't accept someone for who they are, they don't deserve to ruin another ones happiness, only thing that really keeps me going. Always look after number one cause only number one will care about you." He whispers, I really do admire Jesse, I just wish I had his confidence. I smile "So what happened to this friend?" He asked "Ran away from home," I told him, turning back to carry on chopping the garlic. "Good on them," He says "Him," I corrected. "Well, good on him."
