She had overheard Neji ask her whether or not she wanted him to hire a replacement for Shizune during her vacation. The black-haired had completed her first year of work and had passed the letter requesting it, she would be away for about 3 weeks and in those cases it was possible to get someone temporary. He asked her because if there was no new person, she would be the one who would have to resume during that time what had been her duties when she was only an assistant.

She had accepted because it didn't involve much effort and as long as there was no scheduled trip that would imply leaving the position unattended. So with a smile she said goodbye to Shizune wishing her rest during those days and she could see something like a grimace on the Hyūga's face, they would be alone in the office during that same time.

They had to avoid at all costs that the black-haired would suspect what was going on between them, and that was why outside of trips it wasn't very usual for them to do anything, however sometimes Neji would send the woman to buy something or take advantage when Shizune asked for leave for medical appointments for them to use the bathroom. It was still improper and she would be in trouble if they got caught, but she couldn't deny that that extra adrenaline rush was sometimes very welcome. And that was what that smile of his was telling her, for that reason it would be worth it not to have a temporary secretary.

She still liked her job and it had nothing to do with what was going on with her boss or her salary, which was almost twice as much as when she was just an assistant, she liked her duties even more since she was an analyst and that she could use the knowledge she had acquired in her career, in addition to her languages. Because many times the job wasn't just to wait for Neji to find new business, but to review the companies that had been acquired over the years, define which ones were already for sale or which ones still needed revision, reformulate the current business plans and so on.

The calls offering her work had diminished, apparently other employers were finally starting to give in that she wouldn't quit. It was a good apprenticeship and for some reason that she couldn't fully explain, she was beginning to believe that the day she decided to retire from her work for Neji, she would do so because she was going to dedicate herself entirely to offering her services as a translator. But she wasn't in a hurry or anything like that, it was just an idea she had always had and having experience would help her reach her goal.

For her 30th birthday, Neji gave her a book in Korean, which surprised her a little because in the years she had been there he had never given her more than a day off, even though they had already started the adventure the year before. He also told her that he was starting a negotiation that would lead to a trip so they could go to dinner together, she had blushed to say thank you. She wouldn't deny that she liked the gesture, and the idea of being able to spend the night together sounded good to her.

It wasn't that the guilt had disappeared, or at least not completely, it was simply that she didn't want to think about it, let alone her husband for those moments. In fact for their anniversary that year for a moment it seemed to her that Kiba wasn't too eager to celebrate it, so they had gone to the mountains for the weekend. It was still a special date for them but somehow everything had felt a little distant, and in bed it was also something almost mechanical on his part.

The trip was scheduled for the first week of April, Neji had been trying to do business with the United States and Canada for some time, in the case of the first option he didn't need her as he also spoke English, and for the second country it depended on the province of which he was talking about. When one option finally materialized it was a French company whose only branch was in Montreal, so it was going to be a 16 hour flight counting the stopover, and she had already given up trying to understand how it was possible for them to take off at 10 in the morning and land to make the connection at 8 also in the morning, but it was a 12 hour flight. She pouted as she listened to Kiba explain it to her and in the end just resigned herself to the fact that her phone would tell her the time, plus the jet lag that was sure to attack her.
